Gential Warts Transmission Questions
Posted: 03-23-06 22:10pm

I've been with my girlfriend for four months and like her a lot. She told me, after having intercourse, that she had genital warts. We've been sexually active for about 4 months. Only in the past week have I noticed small bumps inside her, and there has never been anything external. We've always used a condom (every time!). Can I only get the infection if we have intercourse while she actually has the bumps inside her, or at anytime? And will the condom matter at that point? We plan on being together for a long time, so is it inevitable that I will get it?

More background info. She has had them for what I would approximate 1 year. She says that she had external ones at first, but got rid of them. She has not seen anymore since. Is this a good sign, or is it only a matter of time before they come back for her?

from what i've learned about genital warts, the hpv virus is always in an infected person, and never goes away. More warts may return at any time. Also, has your girlfriend been to a doctor about her warts? Internal and external genital warts are different. Internal warts can lead to cervical cancer, as it changes the cells in the cervix. Therefore, regular checkups are necessary to monitor any changes to the cervix. Hope this helps.
