Q: Low Immune System and Reoccuring Stomach and Bowel Problems
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 23rd, 2006
Per my family doctor's request, I went to see a doctor of internal medicine for a few reasons. One, my immune system is very low and I can't seem to fight anything off. Two, I have reoccuring stomach and bowel problems. This consists of fluctuating bowels from pellet like to diarrhea, and reoccuring abdominal pain, fever/chills, and nausea. This has been going on for about a year and a half. (I had my gall bladder removed a year ago due to disease)
He scheduled me for 3 tests; a ct scan of my stomach, an egd of the stomach, and a gastric emptying. From the ct scan, I have diverticulosis.
And, from the egd (scope), I have a small hernia. I do not have the results from my gastric emptying and do not return to see my doctor for a week. I'm a little anxious. Do you have any thoughts?

You can benefit from the diagnostic capabilities of blood/urine analyses. Sedimentation, white blood cells (granulocytes and lymphocytes), liver profile (AST, ALT, LDH, and bilirubin) and renal profile (urea, creatinin) are also very important, as are the CT-scan and endoscopy. It is recommended you return to your doctor and request these diagnostics. Chronic diarrhea also indicates a possibility of HIV infection; you can also request an HIV-test.
