Ok, so I am a 22 year old female with no real medical problem other then asthma. A couple of months ago I was having horrible chest pains, my friend that was with me said I would be talking and just pass out. I eventually went to the er (after a couple of hours of the pain) they did an ekg, a x-ray, and blood work, they didn't find anything so they sent me home. I was back the next night with the same problems, they did the same tests plus a cat scan, found nothing again. I went to a cardiologist who did all the tests again, plus a holter monitor and stress test and a cardic catherization. He eventually decided (about three months later) that it was a problem with the valves in my heart and wants to do a pretty serious procedure to fix that. I decided to get a second opinion because I just think that something as serious as he made it sound wouldn't be that common in a 22 year old. The other doctor basically said that he things nothing is wrong. He did the same tests as well. I have no idea who to believe. Sine those first trips to the er I have only had it happen a couple more times, but I have gotten better at recognizing when it is going to happen and I can just calm myself down before it gets out of control. And in the past month, it really hasn't happened at all. Yeah, I have no idea what to do.

Ask For the Results
If you want to know which to believe maybe you could ask the doctor for the results from stress test and holter monitor test. Show it to other doctors for an opinion. Tell the first doctor that this is a serious operation and I would definitely want to be convinced that I really need it and I would want a second opinion. If he is bluffing he will not like to give the result to you. Private doctors are famous for doing a lot of tests and unrelevant operation because they want to keep their hospital going. However, if it is true that you really need that operation because it may develop into more complications , then by all means go ahead. By the way sharp pricking chest pain is quite common is young adults.
