Hi, im a 19 year old male, I just donated
blood today, and they took my blood
pressure, but I dont really understand it.
Mine was 163/63, none of the nurses said
anything to me about it, but is that
dangerous? I did some research, and the
first number seems really high, but the
2nd number is normal. Whats the
difference between them? Why is one so
high, and the other normal? How do I get
than other number down?
Thanks!

Is this the first time you've had your
blood pressure checked?
Does high blood pressure run in your
family?
I don't totally understand the blood
pressure stuff but I know the bottom
number is your heart at rest and if its
over ninety the doctors get upset usually.
Your top number could have been high if
you were nervous today.
To get an accurate idea of what your blood
pressure is check your blood pressure
again in a couple of weeks, on a day when
you have nothing going on and are calm.
Your doctor will probably tell you to lay
off the salty foods and get plenty of rest
for now. If the doctor thinks you might
have high blood pressure he will have your
bp checked every few weeks for a few
months before considering putting you on
bp meds.
