Q: Q:heart Murmurs In Newborns

Extremely eHealthy
My baby is 1 week old today and had a doctors appointment to follow up on her jaundice. She's fine with that as it's almost completely gone. However today her pediatrician heard the heart murmur again and she's got to go in next week for an echocardiogram (sp?)
has anyone else had this happen? I have heard it's common in babies and as they get older they grow out of it. I hope that's true, but if anyone could shed some light on this for me i'd feel much better. Thanks.

.My middle daughter had a heart murmur at birth, but by the time she was a month old it had corrected itself and was no longer audible. The term heart murmur really just refers to a sound that they can't identify, and it's usually caused *they think* by the body systems just learning to work properly and as a whole.

Chances are high that she'll outgrow the murmur. If she doesn't, most are harmless. We never got to the point of having an echiocardiogram, so .I don't have experience with that.

My son was born with a heart murmur, it corrected itself within the first year of his life, no serious problems developed from it.

That's good to hear, it's encouraging. I didn't want to get upset over it because that never helps a situation and I *thought* it was common in babies. Other than that the doctor says she is very healthy. He was pleased to see she was eating 3oz already. Today she went almost 5 hours between feedings. I'm keeping my fingers crossed she will start sleeping through the night in a couple of weeks. It would be so nice! Lol. I think my drugs make me tired too tho, because she only gets up like 2 or 3 times. Anywho thanks again ladies, we appreciate it!
