Q: Diahrea, Abdominal Discomfort And Bloating-what Is Wrong?

I am 33 years old and for the past 4 years have been having diarrhea(yeah, real fun)! I don't even know what it is like to have a normal bowel movement. I go very frequently, and have anywhere from slight to severe abdominal pain before and during, accompanied by a dull ache in my lower back all the time! I have been shifted from my family doctor, to my ob-gyn, to a urologist for different tests, I have ovarian cysts, and have had 2 laproscopies to find nothing related to these problems. But am still suffering on a daily basis. My father has colitis. Could this be colitis, ibs, or colon cancer? How does one find out?

It is obvious that you have prolonged diarrhea. Chronic diarrhea can be due to several reasons including those you mentioned but need several medical investigations to reveal the exact cause.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is functional disorder and can be confirmed when all possible organic reasons will be excluded. Possible organic reasons for chronic diarrhea are: infections (bacterial or parasitic), inflammatory disorders (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), systemic disorders (diabetes, hyperthyroidism), colon cancer, malabsorptive disorders (celiac disease, lactose intolerance, food allergies...), certain medicines etc.
Have you ever done colonoscopy?
Have you ever been tested for intestinal infection - coproculture?
