Im Not Ovulating, Am I Infertile? Posted: 01-02-04 23:29pm
Hi im new to the forum, and I wanted to
know if anyone had any advice or
information for me. Well I have a 7yr
old son, I got pregnant with him when I
was 21. Now im 27 and me and my current
boyfriend want to have a baby together.
Now ive been taking triamterene(which is
hypertension medicine) for several yrs
now, and I have low iron deficiency.
Before I got pregnant with my son I was
ovulating like crazy, but now I dont
ovulate at all, at least I think I dont.
My boyfriend and I has had unprotected sex
for 6 months now, with no luck of
pregnancy. Can I be infertile or could
it be the side effects from the medicine
and the low iron. If anyone that has
had experience with ovulation
complications could give me some advice or
help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

I belive that you are considered to be
suffering from infertility if you have
unprotected sex for a year.

Medication can affect ovulation and your
ability to get pregnant. The first thing
that you can do is ask your pharmacist to
look up the side effects of the
prescription that you are taking in the
pdr (physian drug reference book). They
all have this information on hand and
should give it to you. It should say if
is safe to get pregnant while taking this
medicine and if it interferes with getting
pregnant.
Next, if you are taking a prescription
that means you are seeing at least a
family doctor, right. He can help you
figure out if this is causing a problem,
and if so, can maybe switch the rx to
something that doesn't cause problems.
At your age, you really shouldn't be
having fertility problems. The previous
person said it takes 1 years before you
are considered infertile, that's right,
but it doesn't hurt to look into these
easy to solve things.
Good luck

You should see an obgyn soonest he could
check your hormone levels and see if you
are ovulating. There are several good
drugs that stimulate ovulation but they
have some side effects like multiple
births so you need to be monitored by
your doctor.
