Hand Numbness all the time / Arm asleep at night
for months I have had a numb/tingling sensation in my right hand, it is much more severe at night and it wakes me up all night with pain the blood feels like its rushing into my arm at that point I don't see any discoloration in my hand or fingers. I have been to doctors and a chiroprator and nothing has been successful I am getting worried. I am almost thirty but not sure what the chances of CT are at that age. If so my chrioprator said surgery for ct is only a short term solution. Any ideas of how to know what I have going on? It is extremely hard to sleep and my hand is constantly numb now instead of only when I sleep when it first started it was only painful and numb (deadlike) when I would go to sleep. It also takes a long time to get the feeling back when I wake up about 45 minutes sometimes. HELP

Numbness in my right arm
I have numbness in my right arm when I sleep with my arm down. When I sleep with my arm above my head it doesn't go numb. Does that mean I am pinching a nerve when my arm is down? It is only in my right arm and the numbness is a recent thing and makes my arm swell up like I am bloated.

I have had the same problem a few days. I saw a doctor. I don't think he can help. I was advised by one of my mates to buy wrist/hand brace and wear it at night, what I did. It really works, I could sleep without numbness and tingling in my right hand fingers. Brace (therapy + support for sport injures, arthritis and RSI) cost $45, but it worth. You can try, I believe it will help.

Recent right arm/hand pain and numbness during sleep
Im 17, been through intense drumline practices with my drum on which puts pressure on your back mainly.
Just picked up two jobs, working five to five, and for the past three nights so far i wake up 3-5 times with pain in my right arm and hand, because they're numb.
I did think it was because im sleeping wrong, but im not doing anything different than what ive been doing all my life, and even when i try all positions i still wake up with the pain.
I end up squeezing and trying to get blood in my arm, shaking it, whatever. It just hurts.
I was just playing xbox, a couple hours after i woke up, and it went numb again, and i can feel the feeling for a couple hours even after walking around and eating breakfast etc etc, starting my day.
Carpel tunnel is possible, since im a drummer, but i dont have the money to go chekc around every doctor n figure out whats up, n i dont wanna do that if its something simple as well
ANY advice/thoughts?

When I was your age I experienced the same problem . You need to improve your circulation. See naturopath. Buy hand brace. it will help you to sleep better at night. You can get it in shop where devices for disabled peopled are selling. Try massage Arnica cream.

I have been lifting weigths now for about 8 months and have nt given my self much rest, I now suffer from a numb, type of pins and neddle sensation in my left upper and lower arm from time to time, up to 8 times a day for periods of 2-4 mins. My docotor has told me its too much weigths as the sensation seems to be generated from my sphine around the traps area. My cure he says is to stop weigths for 1 to 2 months, i dont want to do this and would rather try to discover which routines harm me and aviod doing them..... has anyone ever discovered this and any ideas on cure or prevention, and if i continue is it going to be dangerous?????????

The best way to deal with this problem is to consult a doctor. At the onset of the pain, and if it is unfamiliar for you, the cause that is, it is always best to seek professional help. The way that you described your pain, it is probably a nerve damage but I strongly suggest you take the opinion of your doctor.

Right Hand numbness tingling pain
Extreme stress on hands and arms can cause the issues described. Lifting, pulling, over stretching, can cause pain, usually resulting in a pinched nerve. You have somehow damaged your arm or back, neck.

Causes
- Computer keyboarding
- Outdoor work ( painting, lifting, moving heavy objects, repetitive movement over several days.
- Job that increased workload, hand/arm movement
- Repetitive arm/hand movement
- Working out - Jerking weight, too many pounds, too many repetition.
- Sleeping - Head too elevated, arm under head, to firm or soft mattress.
- Injury or Old injury (you're getting older)
- Toxicity - Mold, chemicals, vitamins/minerals/herbs
- Allergies to certain food types

Start a process of elimination, you might discover your issue

Arm and hand pain
No one has mentioned which type of doctor to go see? I don't have a family dr. and want to go to the right person first. My right arm wakes me up several times a night with severe pain all the way to my hand which feels like it is burning and swollen and numb. There insn't any discoloration that I notice. During the day it's okay unless my elbow is bent while I am holding something, like a phone, then the hand tingles but not nearly as bad as night. My husband thinks I am just laying on it wrong while I sleep and probable don't need a dr.

numb neck & arm ~ degenerative joint disease
I have had the same problem & it started a few years back while working as a custodian cleaning schools & stripping & waxing floors it only got worse as time went on & the cold weather kills me. I dont have INS so i just kept going to the hospitals & they would give me a steroid treatment that ease the pain for a month but found out its called degenerative joint disease & its also nerves pinching pain meds dont work & you cant stay on steroids forever. The dr asked me if I was in a wreck cuz its odd to see that in a person my age (34 now) I have never been in a wreck but was in abusive relationships when I was younger. Anyway dr says surgery is an option but that it sometime doesnt help & like I said before I dont have INS so I live in the pain as it gets worse Sad

Right Arm pain. Numb
Great thread. It's interesting to see that there can be many different causes for this and that doctors can be as baffled as the person who is experiencing the pain. So it may make sense to treat it symptomatically...and see if chiropractic, massage, acupuncture work...all of these protocols work with muscles/skeleton/nerves -- which this can be.

I've got the same problem and my acupuncturist said that a meridian that runs through my right arm to my hand had shut down -- which is why it was painful and cold. She couldn't tell me why. And acupuncture has helped. My arm no longer hurts, but my hand is still freezing cold at times.

So based on this thread, I will see her again and then try a chiropractor. I'll try to report back.

Some of these posts are old so I hope their problem has been solved...please log in and say if it has.

Circulation is very important to remember when you have "cold hands or fingers". Without the proper circulation, you'll lose the tissue on the ends of your fingers where capullary's are located. See a doctor, you might need some Plavix or Viagra to help keep the blood flowing to the extremities of the bodies...the fingers, nose and ear-lobes.

Upper left arm pain - fingers tingle
I have what you describe in my left arm. It is like a headache from the shoulder down to my elbow and my hand tingles. The pain in my arm use to only happen occasionally, and started in my late 20's now my hand tingles with it. Drives me crazy. I have not been to a Dr because my primary works the same ours I do and I have a new job and work 6 days a week and don't have time to go. I am in my mid 50's if that makes a difference.

Tingle and Pain that turn into numbness and sleepless nights
I feel the a gentle pain and tingle in my left thumb during the day but gets really bad at night, sometimes I wake up in such pain that I have to get out of bed and go downstairs to scream so I don't wake anybody else up. I guess mine is because of the nature of my work. I have to lift heavy weights and use hand tools. I thought the pain might keep going on for a couple of weeks but its almost two months now and it's only getting worse. I have taken ibuprofen that I was recommended by the doctor and told to give it a rest but at this difficult time I cant afford to take time off as I will be replaced at a blink of an eye. I guess I just have to put up with it.
