Hi, can anyone help me. My son who has cf
had to go into hospital and I was very
concerned about cross-infection between
other cf patients. My son was allowed to
just walk around the wards/play room etc,
where other cf patients could be with a
different strain of pseudomonas. Is this
right, are they doing their job properly?
I feel that even if the risk is tiny, that
cf patients should be isolated from each
other. I have heard that they are in usa.
Is the uk taking risks. Can anyone give
me any feedback what they think, specially
other countries on how their hospitals
deal with cross-infection. Also I feel
there is a risk in the out-patience
waiting rooms of cross-infection. I tell
my son not to touch the books/toys etc and
to keep away from other patients as far as
poss, we usually sit well away. At the
end of the day I feel we are the only ones
that will help to protect our kids 100%,
although I must say his cf team are
wonderful.

Umm I dont know how much help I will be
but I will try. I am 20 years old my mom
moved around alot when I was a child so I
viseted many different hosp. Some of them
took really high percautions and oters not
so high we were not allowed to become any
closer than 20 feet away from each other
and even then out of our own rooms we wore
masks I wear a mask everytime I go to a
hospital weathere I am the patient or
visiting one. Toughing things like books
papers crayons etc I dont believe is a big
deal in one case where we ( cf patients)
couldnt interact we sent notes back and
forth eachothers rooms by our nurses.
Nobody thought that was a big deal. If
you want to take that percaution have your
child wear gloves ... Just an idea.
But I believe cf patients that are in the
hospital together shouldnt be too close
physically and always wear a mask other
than that being in the same room and play
den I think is fine. Just dont forget to
let you kid be a kid they grow up so fast
as it is ya know and I know cf makes you
grow up even quicker so take little risks
now and then when you feel it is ok.
