My 6 week old infant was diagnosed with
bell's palsy this week. I understand
that this is not an uncommon disorder
immediately preceding delivery due to
delivery trauma or pregnancy
complications, but the onset happened at 6
weeks with my baby. My family physician,
the er doc and my pediatrician has never
seen it is a baby (except for preceding
delivery). There are cases in children
following certain illnesses but this has
baffled these docs. The pediatrician has
consulted a pediatric neurologist and even
he is surprised. We've been given the
option to see the neurologist for
observation and possible testing the but
risks of the test and treatment outweigh
his condition right now so we've opted to
give it some time. Should I be
concerned? Has anybody out there ever
seen this is a baby at this stage? Please
reply!
