Q: Anesthesia Problems After Surgery, Relating to Alzheimers

My grandmother has recently had surgery. Everytime she has had surgery she comes out very confused, saying off the wall things. The first time she had surgery it lasted for a few days, this time it has lasted two weeks. She also took demerol after both surgeries. Some think she is showing signs of dementia. I work in the medical field and I feel its the medications and affects of the anesthesia. Is there any type of medication that would flush those things out of her system in order to see if that is what it is. They have her on some anti pschychotic medication in which I feel is not helping her situation at all. I have not spoken to the dr yet, the social worker has stated to my family that he is a very busy man and that we should talk to her, however that will change because I did throw a fit. I do not feel she needs the pchychotic medication, she is a bit depressed and they do have her on a form of anti depressent. I just feel they are masking the situation with unnecessary drugs, can you give me some insight?

Help! After Surgery Not Waking Up Fully
Hi, just wondering if you found a cure or reason for your g-mom not fully waking up after surgery.

My mom had surgery 1 wk ago. She sleeps all the time and will only wake up for short periods. She says she is confused and talks in small sentences.
