Q: Could This Be Hormones Or Something Else?

Hi!! I'm 49 and experiencing some scary symptoms. In july of last year I had an ebt test which was normal for my age and gender,a stress test test which showed a slight buildup of plaque in my right artery, and an echocardiogram which showed that my heart was perfectly normal. This was because I had experienced some slight pains in my left chest. Two weeks ago I began experiencing increased chest pain, heart palpitations, lightheadedness, headache, fatigue, and very bad heartburn. I also had a period for the first time in 18 months. I have gone to my gynocologist. Do you feel that everything is related to hormone changes and an underactive thyroid? I quite taking thyroid medicine in september of last year. Anyone else with these problems? This is driving me crazy!! I'm never sick and now i'm scared all of the time.

Hi I am sorry u are having these symptoms. It sounds like yuor symptoms may have something to do with your heart. Does the heart burn, and chest pain come on when u are doing something physical for example walking up the stairs verses sitting watching tv? Does it subide when u rest? How would you describe the pain? I am sure u don't want to hear this but I think u should see a Dr. Again and have your heart checked. Do u have high blood pressure?

Hi!! Thanks for your reply. I have been working out and I do not have problems then. I really notice it more when I am just sitting or resting. It seems to be more of a weird feeling. A little lightheadedness, but not enough to faint. I quite taking my thyroid medicine about 5 months ago. According to my doctor the thyroid runs our metabolism. If nothing is found in my blood work I am going to call my cardiologist and see if I can have one of the new ct coronary angiograms.

This sounds exactly like what I was experiencing last fall. It turned out to be low pottasium which is very dangerous but easily fixed. I ended up in the e.R. With what I thought was a heart attack. My pottasium was 2.4 which is way low. Get to your doc and get some blood work quick!

I too am 49 and experiencing scary symptoms. I've had palpitations for quite awhile now. Recently I have experienced a pain in the left chest lasting a couple of seconds and then a warm 'rush' feeling afterward that lasted about 30-60 seconds. It happened twice in 10 minutes. Went to doc and he did an ekg that he said looked ok. He can not explain what happened. I also suffer from panic/anxiety disorder so whenever anything like this happens I start to panic that i'm going to die (which of course makes everything worse). I've heard this could possible be hormone related since I was on my period when this happened. I feel for your anguish. I too feel like no one wants to pursue my symptoms. I'm wondering if anyone else out there has suffered the same thing. Hang in there.

We recently went through these symtoms w/my husband- he is a man. It turned out that he does have a prob.w/his heart, it is not serious and is something he has had for years and never knew about. Upon further testing it was found that his stomach and intestines were full of ulcers. He will be on Nexium for the rest of his life, he was on a special diet for 3 months, but now is doing great. If Doc's can't find anything else ask them to do an edg. Good luck and hope this info has helped you.
