Q: Repeated Consumption of Vicks Vapo Rub

My siblings and I had to ingest a tablespoon of vicks whenever any of 5 children in the family were sick. Are there any known ill affects that are reported from continuous use? We did this for many years as we gre up. We all experience some auto-imune illnesses.

Wait... You ate vapo rub? Why on earth?....

I'm sorry, I can't answer your question, as I have never in my life heard of anybody doing that. Perhaps you should ask your doctor?

My Parent Gave Me Vick!

When I was younger my mom gave us a swab of vick to swallow when we were sick and congested. I have asthma, and she could not rub too much vick on me because I would get worse- my pores would be too open. So she used to give use a swab to eat. I don't know if it is harmful or not. But it helped clear my lungs of mucus. This was in the day when we didn't have inhalers for asthma just liquid medicine, it helped.
I rarely have asthma attacks any more...

I don't think it is normal by any means to give a child vicks vapo rub to eat! That has to be harmful in some way..Crazy!
