Q: Excessive Bledding From Depo Shot

I have been on different forms of birth control since I was 17 I am now 21. I started out on the shot and it was great for a while until I started spotting all of the time. So next I went on the patch. The only problem with that was that I was allergic to it. Next I went on the pill and I always forgot to take the pill everyday. So I quit the pill and went back on the shot. Once again I started bleeding again. This was more than spotting a little bit. It was like having a period all of the time. I have been off of the shot since december and I still have not stopped bleeding. Now I have a low sex drive which causes tension between my boyfriend and i. And I am always very irritated by everything. If anyone has any advice please reply!

Hormones, Hormones, Hormones
Ok, first, you have to factor in that changing birth controls combined with stress, diet, and other factors in your life have an effect on your hormones and probably contribute considerably to your moodiness and irritability--this is very normal, though I know it sucks for you to feel this way.

Also, I was on depo (the shot) for almost four years and during that time experienced the side effects you did: lack of sex drive, spotting sometimes, lack of vainal lubrication during intercourse (in my case, don't know about yours), moodiness, etc. I stopped taking depo because I wanted my sex drive back. I did not experience the long lasting bleeding. My younger sister, however, did experience that when she went from the pill to the shot. She had violently painful cramps all the time and bled 24/7 heavily--we're talking almost a box of tampons a day for her. She's now back on the pill and everything is fine. Hormones are very sensitive and very individualized--everyone is different. If you are still having this problem by next week, I suggest you see your doctor. It have a very simple fix. Don't worry! I hope it all goes ok!

P.S. I've found it very liberating, actually, to take a break from birth control altogether. Sometimes letting you body get back on its natural track on its own is very heplful. I feel healthier and periods only last about 3 days, which is shorter than most people on the pill. Granted, if you're sexually active this means your partner will need to start wearing condoms, get a vasectomy, or whatever.

Im sure you'll see my stories of depo on this forum...Its horrible. I bled for 6 months just having one shot.............I lost my sex drive had horible vaginal dryness and during sex had none at all. I wish they would get rid of this stuff. The gyno told me depo has no estrogen in it and that all women usuing it have to use lubrication hope this helps!

same story
i've been on it for a year now, but i don't have many options due to endometriosis. The unfortunate thing is that I get my period, and not spotting... a full period like flow, for two months at a time. It's ruined my relationship and short of a hysterectomy I don't have many options. Which is really unfortunate. I was told to increase the number of doses i have (from every three months to every two) but that has just seemed to make the flow worse.

so lame! so nothing really to offer except i feel your pain!
