Hi everyone. I wanted to run this by some folks who have more experience with this issue.
I'm a 36 year old woman whose grandmother passed away from colon cancer that wasn't detected and had metastisized.
I've had mucous in my stool off and on for a while, but this week I had to episodes of blood on my stool and on the tissue when I wipe. I was immediately referred to a gi specialist who I saw yesterday afternoon and he scheduled a colonoscopy for tuesday morning.
I do have a hemmorhoid that has been there for several years, but it has never ever bled before. Even when i've been constipated in the past, it's not bled. I haven't been constipated at all lately, so I can't imagine that it would be a hemorrhoid. In fact, i've been eating a high fiber diet for a while and my bowels have been very regular and soft consistency. Sometimes I might get loose stools or narrowed stools, but never bleeding.
I'm very concerned, but don't want to over react either. How common is blood in the stool and am I justified in my concerns about colon cancer?
Thank you for any insights.
