Seizures And Depression
Posted: 03-08-06 17:47pm

Hi everyone, after I have a seizure, I seem to get very depressed and lose my apetite to eat.......And if i've had a couple of seizures in 1day I get so depressed that i'm crying about nothing... My memory has also gotten very bad and I used to have an incrediable memory.........Is anyone out there experiencing these side effects too??? I don't know if it's from the meds (depokote) or the seizures themselves.........????????

My son has seizures from the temporal and frontal lobes and he often feels really down after a seizure. I think it is normal especially when it is from tle or fle. If those depressed feelings pass once you recover from that post ictal time, it might be part of your epilepsy. It is something you should mention to your neuro since depression is also pretty common for people with seizures and might need more treatment.

My son was more depressed on depakote at age 9. Not everyone has that issue.

Some of the meds can actually help the mood issues, lamictal is one of them, I remember.

Memory issues can also be from seizures. My son has a lot of memory problems when he is having a lot of seizures. If he gets control for a few weeks his seems to improve until seizures hit again.

I hope you can find better control and help.
Please talk to your neuro about the depression times to see if you need more help there.
