Q: Side Effects of Surgical Abortion
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 8th, 2006
I was raped about 4 years ago. I was told that I would not have children, now I am 4 weeks pregnant. Can you help me understand how I this was possible and the side effects of surgical abortion at 7 weeks.
Thank you for your time.

When consulting a medical professional you will need to include some more background information on your medical history: For example, why were you told that you weren't able to have children?. If you are, indeed, pregnant now (positive pregnancy test)... the possible side effects/risks of any surgical abortion are uterus infection and sterility. It doesn’t mean that these side effects will surely happen; the possibility exists because after an abortion the uterus is very vulnerable to infections.
