Q: Cord Blood Banking

Ladies I would like to ask of your opinion about the cord blood banking ...
I am in a deep delema. I talked with my doctor and with my pharmacist and they both told me that its a 50-50 choice. I am giving my dna code to someone I don't know in order to bank it in case my baby needs it in the future (just for 15 years). But on the other side I am giving my babys genetic code to someone I don't know and that someone maybe use it for something else... A clone maybe. I know it sounds extreme but let's face it... We live in an extreme era!!!
I surfed around the net and everyone shows that this method is a helpful method as the banked cells will protect the baby from having a stroke or a heart attack or alzheimer or diabetis.
Has anyone of you thought about it?? I would like to hear your opinions ladies as I am thinking about it day and night ... Thank you!

I just read a very interesting article about this in the march issue of parenting magazine. I recommend you pick up a copy to help inform your decision. Personally, my husband and I decided against private banking. We are going to donate it to a public bank. The technology does not seem advanced enough to make the cost worthwhile. We also figure donating to a public bank will further move the technology and so if the day does arrive that our child needs it there will be enough advancements to make it possible. Definitely, check out the article it clarfies both sides of the debate. Whatever decision you make will be the right one for you.

Thank you for your answer but unfortunately we don't have public bank for this here in greece...
But I have to say that after watching a movie called "the island" me and my husband decided not to do anything about that!!!! We got so scared with the clone issue that we gave up any possitive thoughts we had!!
Thank you once again for your answer!! :)
