Q: Does Anyone Recieve Child Support Payments?

My ex just came by and dropped off some post-dated checks for child support. We had never really discussed how much he would pay but he has decided on his own that he is paying 200 dollars. I was just wondering if that is a reasonable ammount? (personally I don't want any money from him, and I told him not to come by that this would be done through the courts because he is unreliable (he said 2 times this week that he would be over and then never called or showed up...And then got mad and yelled at both my mom and me because he was called upon not showing up or atleast having the decency to call)

I dont know about the amount, but I think you are right to sort it in the courts because then its not upto him how much or how often. Which like you said is unreliable. I'd take him to court, so its settled and he cant argue with you over it.

The only bad thing is if the courts say he only has to pay like a hundred or something lol

Well you said you didnt want his money anyways...So why dont you just go to court ...Because then everything will be final..And you wont have to mess with him paying and not paying...The courts will make sure that every dollar is paid ...On time or his butt will be going to jail..

200 is reasonable its based on their income kimmie usually for child support but when your child goes into daycare you will wanting more since daycare is like 600$ a month the only thing with cheques is they can bounce and if you do it out of a courtroom he doesnt have to hold up to his part of the bargain. If you bring him to court he will have no choice but to pay if he fails to make payment they will remove it from his account and give it too you if he does it often he can be charged with neglect as well if I remeber I think your credit also goes down hill(bad credit etc)

its good to have everything on paper I would bring it to court!!

It's based upon income.

My son's father pays me about $200 a month and I believe he makes like $3200/month gross. We looked it up on the british columbia government webpage and that's what a court would tell him to pay. We wanted to do it amiably out of court though and he's been very good about it.

If you're having problems I would really recommend you go through a court because I can understand how frustrating it would be, especially when you're depending on that money. He can't just leave you in the lurch sometimes like that. Unless he's only working at mcdonalds and making minimum wage (like $500-$600/month) then they'll likely make him pay at least $200/month.

That is more than what I get a month. Because I only get $110 a month. Some say i'm crazy for having him pay me child support b/c we are still together and engaged. But that is my only way of knowing I have money put to the side incase I need it for him or if anything happens between me and him before we get married. Now how many of you think that is crazy???

I think thats a lil silly...Only because i'd think if you were marrying someone that you'd trust them enough to stick around--but I guess its better safe than sorry

Lol well I wish my ex would just deny her...He tried it before when we were still together and I told him that he would have to pay child support and he told me he did not believe in it :? He told me and my mom not to put his name on the birth certificate or he would deny it was his. *rolls eyes* well anyways that lasted until he realized that gee saying something like that would piss me off and life was made a little more difficult (ie he was being forced to move out quicker) now he is saying he will pay and such but bleh. I wish he'd just take a hike. My mom said he smelled like pot when he came into the house (i was not in the room as I am being slightly childish and refusing to see him or talk to him as everything ends up in a fight with me being sweared at...Lol).

Anyways that's my lovely rant at the moment :p
