Q: Does my Child's Ear Infection Require an ENT Specialist?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 3rd, 2006
For the past 6 days my 20 month old daughter has been running a high fever (avg. 104) . I have taken her to her pediatrician on 2/27 and then to the ER 2/28 and all tests have come back negative. She was given a 24 antibiotic on 2/28 in the ER and she continued to get a high fever. Her pediatrician just prescribed a 5 day antibiotic to her yesterday (3/9) and she still had a fever of 105. this morning at 2 am. On 2/29 she began having some fluid draining out of her left ear. I don't know what to do. Should I take her to an ENT? Should I take her to see another pediatrician? What should I do? Someone please help.

Middle ear infections can manifest as complications of pharyngeal infection and are either bacterial in nature or a viral infection complicated with a bacterial infection. Viral infections usually are shorter in duration than bacterial infections. You can visit an ENT-specialist to diagnose and treat your daughter's condition.
