Q: Why am I Bleeding so Much? I just took out the NuvaRing...a
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 2nd, 2006
I was on the Nuva Ring for a little over a year and I took it to begin to try for a baby. I removed the ring on Feb 1 and I had a very light period on Feb 2-Feb 5. I started a real period yesterday, March 2. But i'm very concerned... Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and I was sopping wet in blood. I wore a super plus tampon to bed and normally that is more than enough to get me through the night... I was only asleep for about 4 hours when I woke up. And I was laying in a pool of blood. I was also passing some big "clots" of blood.....I noticed a trend that every time I would have a few minutes of severe cramping, then I would pass what i'm assuming is a clot. It was deep red, almost looked black, and was like a little ball of slimy blood. And another thing, do you have to Ovulate in order to have a period?

You must ovulate to have a real period. Without ovulation there could be no period or if there is a “period” that is not a real period but false period (pseudo-menstruation). Pseudo-menstruations are usually irregular and differ from real menstruations but sometimes they can appear regularly and to look very similar to real menstruations. “Periods” without ovulations are usually painless.

Hyper-menorrhea is described as a large quantity of menstruation blood, which it seems that you are describing here. You must go immediately to your gynecologist to identify the cause for such a large flow of menstrual blood. The myoma of the uterus can cause such vaginal bleeding. However, you will be required to perform a colposcopy, Pap-smear and vaginal ultrasound in order to establish the proper diagnosis.
