Q: What is Causing Blood and Pain during Bowel Movements? What
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 2nd, 2006
Hi,

I am very concerned about a problem that I have. For the past few months I have had anal bleeding which is painful only during bowl movements. The blood can be bright or slightly darker red ,but the amount of blood increses each time I pass a stool, leaving alot of blood in the toilet bowl. I can see small cuts in the skin around the area, so I don't think that the problem is internal (I hope!!). Can you please give me some idea of what this problem could be, and any remedies that you can suggest to help would be great.

Many Thanks, Becky.

Anal bleeding can be caused by hemorrhoids or anal mucosa/skin fissures. You can visit an abdominal surgeon to determine the real diagnosis of your symptoms, though. Balsams containing antibiotics, antiseptics and anti-inflammatory medicines are generally used for local treatment of such conditions.
