Q: Continued Bleeding With Yasmin

I've been using yasmin bcp for almost two years now. During my last period my bleeding was more brown than usual and it lasted for about 12 days, off and on after the 8 day or so. My period usual lasts 6 days so this is irregular for me. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem while taking yasmin. Someone suggested that I might need to change my birth control. Any comments, suggestions? Thanks for the input :)

Yasmin
I took yasmin for a couple of years in addition to ortho tri cyclen and ortho evra. The aim of me taking these pills was to alleviate cramps and heavy and prolonged bleeding I experienced prior to taking hormones. Anyhow, on each one of these I experienced little or no relief from my symtoms and in some case the hormoned made them worse. Recently I decided to swith methods as there was so much controversy over the patch causing health problemd sna releasing a higher amount of hormones. I am now on a very low dose pill, microgestin or loestrin and it's fantastic. I wish I had switched years ago. My periods last 3 or 4 days as opposed to the 6-8 I experienced on the other pills. Also I have far less severe cramps. The only complaint is that my normally very dry skin has become more oily. But I would take that over bad cramps and days of bleeding anyday. Every woman is different but it's worth it to try another pill if you're not totally happy with this one. My only reget is I didn't discover low dose bc years ago.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the advice :) I finally stopped spotting after 14 days of my last period starting, but i've been having breast tenderness and cramps since then and I usually get them one week before I get my period. Right now it's one week before i'm supposed to get my period and I noticed some very small amount of brown blood when I wiped when I went to the bathroom, I thought I was getting my period early but later on there was no blood. Later on in the day I did see brown blood when I was wiping once more but not again for the rest of the day. Right now i'm just having really bad cramps but my breast don't feel as tender. Did you experience any on this when you were taking these other bcp? I guess i'm just waiting to see if I get my period and if lasts long like last time and go from there.

I got my period today, it's one week earlier than it's supposed to. I'm wondering if I should wait until it goes away to go to the doctor and if I should stop taking the pills, i'm suppose to start back on them again on monday. Any advice?
