I was diagnosed with cml 1/12/06. I am
taking gleevec and my wbc went from 69,000
to 5,000 since on gleevec. I would love
to hear from other people with cml and how
they are doing. I am doing pretty good
but on an emotional roller coaster some
days. In 6 months I am having another
bone marrow biopsy to check for changes in
my chromosones. I pray that the numbers
are down. Nothing prepared me for this
and it was such a shock. I went to the dr
the friday before xmas for severe
diarhea(viral infection unrelated to cml)
and they did a cbc at that time. My white
count was 60,000 and they sent me to the
lab for more tests. A few days after
xmas I am at the oncologist being told he
thought I had cml. A couple days later a
bone marrow biopsy was done and then the
"official" dianosis. Somehow I knew
though as soon as they said that about my
wbc the first day. I am a nurse but have
never worked oncology. But I knew I was
not sick other than fatigue, and I had a
round of elevated wbc last year that came
back down with antibiotics. I feel
blessed to have caught it early and to
have medication that can help control it.
I am trying to cope with all the unknowns.
Its a waiting game and I am not a patient
patient. Sometimes I wake up scared
remembering I have cml. Most of the time
I cope well. I really need some feedback
from others with this disease. Thanks for
your time......
