Q: Am I Experiencing a Phantom Pregnacy?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 27th, 2006
Hi, I am having lots of pregnancy symptoms but all my HPT's are negative.

HERE ARE MY SYMPTONS:

*Nausea (mainly mornings but sometimes throughout the day. To the point of having to run to the loo)
*Frequent urination.
*Extra veiny sore/aching/heavy feeling breasts and a yucky big vein too!!
*Areola darkening (only slight).
*Unexplained small weight gain (0.5lbs in one week).
*Fatigue (sleeping in the day, which i never usually do)
*Heartburn.
*Constipation
*Incredible hunger.
*Strange belly feeling (relevant??).
*Dizziness.
*More headaches than normal (Although i used to suffer with frequent bad headaches).

THIS I WHY I'M CONFUSED:

*Numerous -HPT's (different brands).
*Think i ovulated around 20th Jan then bled on 8th Feb for 5 days (very light). I usually get AF twice a year, they are usually very heavy and last between 6-8 days.

*Do you think i still could be as i've read some women got numerous -HPT's but were actually pregnant?

*Do you think i could be having a phantom pregnancy?

Please please advise, i'm scared the doctors will think i'm being silly and thinking too much into it.

Thanks,

Gemma.

Early Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms Answer A906
Pregnancy test results are valid only if the test is taken more than 10 days after ovulation...OR less than 5 days before an expected period is due. You can use this formula to determine if your pregnancy test results are valid or not. All the symptoms and signs you’ve described are not firm signs of pregnancy. They can be symptoms of other conditions, too. If the pregnancy test was taken in the correct time zone and is negative, then it is possible for you to experience a phantom pregnancy. Phantom pregnancies are typical for women who have suffered from sterility for a long time and want to have baby very much. Additionally, women suffering from PCOS experience difficulties conceiving and carrying the pregnancy to term.
