Q: Cystocele/rectocele Surgical Repair Question

I am having surgery on 4/24 to correct a cystocele and rectocele and am wondering from anyone who has had this what the recovery is like. I have a 6 yr old and 11 week old (she will be 20 weeks when I have the surgery) at home, but will have help with both of them from my father while my husband is at work--he will be taking time off while I am in the hospital, but are trying to figure out how much he should take after that.

If anyone has had this surgery and can tell me what to expect, I would greatly appreciate any information you have.

Thank you!

Jannette

Rectocele repair heads up
Hi J,
I had rectocele repair on march 25 and I had a 13 month old baby at home at that time. I had no idea what I was in for being 29 and a first time mom, so I played it by ear. I went back to work after 8 days thinking all was o.k. But being a hairstylist at my own shop, I overdid it after a 9 hour day. My husband was of no help and I was carrying and lifting baby. I ended up in the emergency room 48 hours later hemmoraging severely with grapefruit sized hemmatomas. My dr rushed to my side to resiuture my vaginal I incision that had opened due to over lifting and standing. I lost a tremendous amount of blood and ended up taking more time off of work than originally planned.
So my advice to you is... Tell your husband to try two weeks at the minimum or arrange for someone else to be there for help. Total recovery time is aprox 6 weeks and that is how long it took me to be able to walk normally and feel like a normal woman again. Having that u are having two proceedures done... I can't imagine how worried u must be. But don't worry because once u do heal, it will all be worth it, and u will feel great again. Take it easy and prepAre whatever you can before your big day... Shopping, comfy clothing, pain meds, and lots of fluids and miralax everyday, So u can avoid a very painful bowel movement post surgery. Hope this helps u, and I wish u the best dear.
