Hi

i was diagnosed with depression about 6 months ago.

The thing is for the last 3 or 4 months I have been taking large amounts of nurofen plus. I have tried to stop, but its hard when you can just buy them over the counter.

I know I shouldn't be doing it, but I like the feeling they give me.

What should I do Confused

Extremely eHealthy
First, unless you are in pain you must stop taking the nurofen plus not only because they aren't good for you but because they won't be of any use when you really need them for pain & they could cause you serious medical problems, ulcers, stomache lining problems etc.

Next, you have to decide whether you want to get better or not & whether you are willing to actually do something to help yourself. There are ways you can help yourself, post again if you are willing to act!!

First action required now : :d Smile Laughing Wink smile!!! Yes, now!!

Think about that simple free, unmedicated, no side effects action, didn't you feel good when you did it???? That's one way you can start.

Hopeless: when you are dealing with depression, wanting to get better on your own usually doesn't work. Regardless if you don't feel comfortable with a different doctor, go! Maybe you need to be on prescription meds. I don't know if you or any of the other folks understand that depression is not a weakness that you can control. Seek a therapist & a md. Hope you feel better.

Sometimes depression or other mental illnesses can be conquered on your own! I have severe anxiety and worry about my health a lot. I am actually not on meds and didn't want a therapist. I went to the library and checked out a lot of books and logged onto the internet and started learning everything I could about my illness. I became depressed and was going to the Dr. Like 3 times a month. He suggested therapy and I tried it one time and hated it. Like I said earlier, I checked out a bunch of books and learned a lot about what I could do to fight my illness naturally and I did. There are days I feel more vulnerable, but I do the exercises that were in the books and on the websites and I can get past it.

I agree that some people may need extra help, but meds aren't always the answer. I believe if we try hard enough, even with a counselor or therapist at times, mental illness can be conquered with no meds. If you are addicted to something and feel there is no answer, then I suggest seeing a Dr. Good luck!! :d
