The smell of the vagina. Ok we all know it has the odor of fish. But sometimes I think mine is odd. I do not have infections or and std. I am 100% sure of that. I am a virgin and I shower regularily so I am clean. I also shave "down there"

so I dont get it....Is it normal. Im afraid to do anything because I get so embarrassed about it and I dont know if its normal.

Help? Please?'

some other questions that I refuse to ever ask anyone in person:

is there a good way to shave without getting razor burn on the top? ... I forgot the name of it...But the top of the vagina lol.

Douching. I probably spelt that wrong, anyway I heard it was bad to do but are you supposed to after your period or sex?

Not all infections are sexually transmitted. If there's a change in the ph of the vagina then thrush can occur and this can cause strange discharge (different smell/creamy). There are a few other things which are possible to occur without sex so i'd pop to your nurse if you're worried and they can tell you. Non of these are anything to worry about and happen to most women at one time or another and are easily treated.

It could also be nothing and you just being very 'aware' of your own smell. I'm afraid the only way to know 100% is by having a health professional help.

"is there a good way to shave without getting razor burn on the top? ... I forgot the name of it...But the top of the vagina lol."

personally I don't think you should shave your pubic hair - have it waxed. It may hurt slightly but it is definately worth it and no problems with stubble rash lol

" I probably spelt that wrong, anyway I heard it was bad to do but are you supposed to after your period or sex?"

you shouldn't do it at any time.

I agree---no douching

our bodies have a way of cleaning themselves out--and douching just messes with natural course of cleanlyness, and changes the ph balance in our vagina.

i asked my doctor about that about 6 months ago,she said it was ok but you can only do it like once a month or every other month. It just doesn't mix well with some peoples body chemistry

I've recently discovered this about douching.....If there's any bacteria in the vaginal opening at all...Douching can push it up thru the cervix causing infections of your uteras or falopian tubes. I would recommend bathing after sex and letting your natural bacteria take care of the bad. Douching washes away the good bacteria.

Babes
I think you need to go to your local gum clinic. It sounds like you have bacterial vaginosis. You can get that from anything, soap powder, underwear, when you are in the bath and you get water inside you. Anything. I had that for a while and it was horrible, do you have any bad vaginal discharge? If so write back and explain colour and smell if you can babes, I know it is embarrasing but it sometimes helps to talk rather than keep it in.

a Question 4 Tikerbellnm Or Anybody
Hey everybody,
i randomly came on this post, but I have been having a problem something like that kitkat511. Instead my urine smells very strong odd I cant explain. Anyways tinkerbellnm, you said something about vaginal discharge. You said you can get it from anything. I know I dont have a std because I got checkd. I do have sex but with only one partner. I started noticing that my discharge was really heavy I mean it was really unusual to me. Then I coundnt wear undies without pantyliners because it would stain. First I thought maybe the birthcontroll pills but I have been on them since last nov,and nothing unusual had happend b4, then I though it was my period, but im not sure acting funny or somethin. Neways its started normally white and heavy then it turned yellowish/whiteish then when my urine started to smell like a week ago it turned darker like almlost brown. Ive had a yeast infection so its nothing like that no itchn no reddness. I dont kinow wat to think anymore.

So help please!!!

Birth control pills can cause "spotting" from time to time. Ie, very light bleeding between periods. It should only happen rarely though. I've been on the pill for about a year and a half... I changed from microgynon because it gave me really sore, tender breasts. I'm on cilest now and i've had no trouble with it. A few months ago I bled a little between periods, which had never happened before. When I told the doctor he said it was entirely normal. So if your discharge is darker than usual it may be because of traces of blood. Give it a wee while and see how it goes, chances are you have absolutely nothing to worry about!

As for the douching thing, never douche. The vagina is designed to keep itself clean and douching is simply unnatural. I dont think the vagina smells like fish..... I hate it when people say that! It makes out like it's really dirty and bogging down there and it isn't. As long as you wash every day, any smells you get are totally natural. They are full of feramones (i cant spell that??) and should not smell unpleasant, especially to a man :)

U have a really bad vaginal infection sometimes vaginal infections can change the color of ur urine and cause ur discharge to be yellowish/brown and kind of thick. I suggest that u go to ur gyno to make sure though

Vaginal Odor
Okay i'm 32 and I can definately tell you that your not suppose to smell like fish at all, if all is well and you shower daily with a mild soap. Now, having said that I will also tell you i've also been there with the odor thing as well. Now depending on how intense the odor is or if it is still a little fishy after you get out of the shower being sure you wash between your lips, if you can still smell the fish odor then its definately an infection. Sometimes it will go away on its own but not likely if its been going on a while. Not a big deal to get rid of once you clue your doctor in and yes this is something that every gyn doctor has came across more than once and is not neccesarily a std, it can be caused from a strong soap or doucing or the detergent you use to wash your clothes in.

You can still have an infection. You don't need to be sexually active to have a vaginal infection. And no matter how clean you keep it, you can still get infections.

There are some things you can do to improve the smell, like eating fruits, especially pineapple...That's been said to really help.

You should either try shaving with a better razor (like intuition or venus). Those little plastic ones aren't usually that great at avoiding razor burn. Intuition is the best because it has a built-in moisturizing bar. Also, use shaving cream for sensitive skin. If none of this works, try waxing.

And you should never douche. It's been proven to be far more harmful than helpful. It can actually push bacteria farther up into your reproductive organs, with is the exact opposite of it's intended purpose.
