How Specialists Determine the Nature of a Solid Tissue (Tumo Posted: 02-22-06 15:09pm
Hello. I am asking this in reference to my
11 year old daughter. Recently she was
diagnosed as having a thyroglossal cyst.
However, upon exam with a CT scan the
radiologist states this is not a cyst but
a soft tissue lesion that has surrounding
soft tissue involvement. Should i be
worried that this can be cancer? I was
told that it does not involve her thyroid
and the mass is freely movable. It appears
to be non painful. I would appreciate any
comments you may have . Thank you for your
help! ( she also had an US which again
comfirmed a soft tissue nodule).

The nature of a solid tissue (tumor) can
be discovered with a cytological analysis
of cells received by a fine needle biopsy
(punction) or via a patho-hystological
examination of the tumor after its
surgical removal (final option).
