Blood Test Neg!!! Still Preggo??? Posted: 02-22-06 12:58pm
Omg!! I'm so upset!!! I posted just
monday that I finally had the confirmation
from the doc that I was preggo. I had
blood taken yesterday just to be sure. I
went in to see him today to find out the
result. The beta hcg test came back
negative! It makes no sense. Doc said it
was possible that it could be wrong...And
not to give up hope. I just don't know!
If i'm 8 weeks it should have came back
positive right?? Now...I was reading on
the net that there are two types of tests
that they do...One that gives you the
level of hcg and one that gives you a pos
or neg result without the hcg level. They
said if the hcg was too low...The pos and
neg result test might not have picked up
enough...And given a false negative. The
doctor showed me the test and it merely
said...'beta hcg>>>>negative'.
He still wants me to go for the
ultrasound monday and also do the blood
test again. He's gonna push to have all
the results by wednesday...And I have an
appt to see him then.
The intern that was with him also said
that it was possible that my endometriosis
was interfering in some way and making the
levels low. I had laparoscopy two years
ago and had only about half of the
endometrium tissue removed from places it
should not have been outside the uterus.
I had complications with blood oxygen
level and breathing...So that had to wrap
up surgery only half way into it. Doc had
said that it wasn't too severe and that
they could give me bc pills to prevent
further periods and stop the endo from
progressing. I opted not to take them in
hopes that I might get preggo (i wasn't
actively ttc...But we were only using pull
out method). So...It's possible the endo
had had a chance to spread over the last
two years again. I don't know how this
would affect my blood test...But intern
seemed to think it might.
Anyway...I haven't given up hope yet. I
have sooo many symptoms:
-occasional light headedness/dizziness
-swollen, puffy and enlarged breasts.
Also occasional tingling and tender to
touch.
-areola seems darker and bumbs more
predominant. Also breast feel very
heavy!
-veins are very visible in breast...One
leading to nipple is swollen & puffy
-moody!
-tired all the time.
-frequent unrination
-aches and pains! Even have
'pulling/pain' from three lap
scars...Mostly the belly button one
though.
-having a hard time with short term
memory! Lol!
-carpel tunnel getting worse
-toss and turn all night (occasional night
sweats)
-vivid dreams almost every night. I used
to only remember about one dream a month
(if that).
-no sexual appetite (only 3 times since
jan 22nd and it's usually almost
everyday!)
-gas, bloating
-very hungry! I mean not just craving
food...But my stomach growls!!!
-a lot of discharge
-doctor confirmed swollen uterus.
I just hope so desperately that this test
was wrong! Why would I have all of these
symptoms if I weren't??? Has anyone had
this happen and still ended up preggo??

Wow! Now i'm really discouraged! :(
i started having mild af cramps two days
ago (not even painful) and woke up today
with heavy bleeding and severe pains (i
have endo...So pains are usually severe).
Today would be the day my period is
due...So it makes sense. Thing is...I
still think it's possible that i'm preggo.
My mother had her period for the first 2
to 3 months during all three of her
pregnancy's. I also found out yesterday
that she had a negative blood test for hcg
when she was 6 weeks preggo with my
youngest brother. So...I havn't given up
hope completely...But i'm not as convinced
and joyous as I was before. It could be
that the swollen uterus was from my period
starting. However...Most of my symptoms
are still present and my bb's are still
swollen and enlarged (this has .N.E.V.E.R
happened before). Doc is testing hcg and
prolactin on monday and I will have an
ultrasound then too. I hope there isn't a
more serious 'cause for all these
symptoms.
By the way...I am very suprised by the
lack of response that i've had here. Any
support or similar experiences would be
great to hear. :)
i'm tired of crying and worrying about all
this! :(

too some women have pds when they are
preggy so dont give up =)

Awww man...Ya see..That's why I didn't
want to say to much on my last post
because I didn't want to "jinx" you!!
I am soooo sorry that the tests came back
negative...Make sure you get the other
blood test done and see what happens
during the ultrasound...I wish you all the
best and hope you get the results you
want!!
About the symptoms though...There have
been cases where a woman can actually want
to be preggy so bad that her mind
psychologically tricks her body into
having these symptoms...I really hope that
this is not the case for you...I hope that
you are preggy and everthing is ok..That
maybe they mixed your blood up with
someone elses!

Hey wannababy, I can kind of know what you
are going through, I remember getting 3
bfp on hpt's. I went to the doctors but
he didnt do a blood test but he did do
another urine test and told me he would
get the results to me in 5 days. 5 days
later the results were negative, I was so
confused! My doctor said he had never
know a 3 positive hpts to be wrong so he
told me he wanted me to do another urine
test in 2 weeks. After the longest 2
weeks of my life I re-tested and the
answer was positive!
Doctor said the original test must have
been done too early!

i'm feeling pretty emotional at the
moment...But one day at time right?
And yeah...I looked up false pregnancy's
just to see things from all sides. But it
doesn't seem possible for me. It's not
that I wanted a baby so bad that I would
think of it all the time. My dh and I
were ttc...But I didn't mind that it might
take a while and I wasn't even thinking
about it when all the symptoms began. It
started with an irregular period...That
had me thinking and doing some research.
Few days later I started having the rest
of the symptoms. It wasn't like I had
been obsessing over it...But I sure was
thinking about it a lot. I read too that
false pregnancy is very rare and usually
affects women over 30 who have emotional
issues related to previous miscarriage,
relationship problems or inability to
conceive. I'm 25 and so far as I know
(lol!!) emotionally stable and in a great
relationship of 8 and 1/2 years.
Anyway...I'll be sure to keep everyone
posted...And i'll be sure to post again if
I need some extra support or comfort. You
ladies have been great since the very
start of this and I feel very lucky to
have discovered this forum! :)

*sigh*...I'm just depressed now. I went
to have my blood test re-done and ultra
sound this afternoon. They found nothing
on my ultra sound and I wont hear back
about my blood work until wednesday. I've
pretty much accepted the fact that I am
not pregnant. I was sooo sure! I'd never
experienced swollen bb's and many other
symptoms that I had this past 6 weeks. I
seem to have come back to normal over
these last few days. Bb's are hard to
judge though...Nipples still a little
swollen and bb's 'seem' larger. Who
knows? Maybe I miscarried these last few
days (i had bleeding this week that only
lasted two days and was accompanied by
sometimes severe cramps). Anyway...I can
only look at this from the plus
side...I've quit smoking (last thursday)
and am preparing myself to be much
healthier when I do get preggo. After all
the research i've done over these last
weeks...I'll be much more informed and
know what to look for this time. I'll let
y'all know how things go...I'll be doing a
while heck of a lot a baby dancin'!!
Lol!!! Dh is .Very happy about that one.

Aww i'm sorry to hear about that. All I
can say is keep trying. It took 2
miscarriages and almost 3 yrs of trying
but I do have an 8 month old now, so
things are possible!! Good luck!
