My 10 year old daughter got up one night with her (r) arm flailing about. It was scary as she had no control. This has continued for approx. One year. Though the violence of the movement has been controlled with two medications clonidine and neurontin it has not stopped them. Occasionally her left leg will become involved. She is fully awake and aware when it occurs. It can also happen when she is awake (not always at night sometimes during daytime) but when it occurs during the day it usually is because she is extremely tired. She has them just about every night which is causing her to be sleep deprived. The movement will also occur when she closes her eyes and holds her arms out straight ahead. Her neurlogist has done a 24hr eeg, mri and a ton of blood work all is normal. Her neurlogist states thatthey are myoclonic movements and he doesn't believe that it is epilepsy but that he has no idea what is wrong. He currently is just trying to control the symptoms. She saw a specialist in boston who stated that though not all of her symptoms fit seizures that most do and that she does have some neurological deficits. We are currently doing some more testing. The doctor in boston reccomend another mri of her brain and mra also to do a veeg. From this we hope to find the answers just wondering has anyone expericence anything similar or have any thoughts??? It has been a long year for both of us hoping someone has some thoughts!!! Thanks!!

I am so sorry there are not clearer answers for your daughter. Have they tried a sleep study to see if it is another form of myoclonus from a sleep disorder?

It is good that the symptoms have calmed down some with treatment. Sorry they have not gone away how ever.

Was her eeg abnormal when these were going on?

I hope the boston specialist will find you clear answers as to what is going on!
