I have a chronic cough that I need to force, and the need to constantly clear my throat or try to "hawk" up mucus that seems to be blocking my airway. Many times there is a light yellow or tannish mucus or sputum that comes up. I do have really bad anxiety. I started the "hawking" up on purpose, trying to see if there was blood in my sputum after I got afraid of having a blood clot in my lung. Since then it has become worse and more mucus is coming up on its own. Could my intentional coughing and trying to hawk up mucus be causing my to produce more mucus? I do it all the time cuz i'm afraid it's going to block up my airways. I find it hard to breathe often, too. Do you think this is all an effect of my anxiety or a more serious condition?

Sounds like you have a lower respiratory tract infection, possibly bronchitus which involves extra mucus being secreated which would account for always clearing your throat and producing flem. Def go to your primary doc and get it sorted if it persits.
