Infertility Answer A503
A hormonal analyses (FSH, LH, estrogen, progesterone and prolactin) can reveal disturbances in the axis hypothalamus/pituitary glands/ovaries that control female reproductive functions. An ultrasound presents information about the anatomy of the uterus and the ovaries. HSG is a contrast X-ray method that provides information about the uterine cave and the passageway of the Fallopian tubes. A laparoscopy is an invasive endoscopic method used for visual exploration of the organs of the abdominal cave including the ovaries, uterus, and Fallopian tubes. Laparoscopy is a very useful method for inner abdominal investigation. It is painful and patients are put under total anesthesia. The attending gynecologist makes 3 small holes through the front abdominal wall to place a camera and additional instruments. After the intervention, you may feel some nausea from the anesthesia but you can typically leave the hospital after only 1-2 days.
