Hi I am 21 years old and been having this problem for 13 months. :(

one night after a very heavy night of partying and smoking alot of
cigarettes, and did a little bit of cocaine it was a very big mistake and
never did it again. I used to smoke alot of marijuana. I made a promise and was obligated to be somewhere in the
morning and maybe got an hour or two of sleep and drank about six cups
of coffee which made me feel very nervous and jittery. On my way to my
destination I was still very tired and bought a pack of four no-doze caffiene
pills. I misread the dosage instructions and I thought a dose was 1 packet
of two so I decicided since I was so tired that I take a double dose but
actually a dose was just one and took all of them. With all the caffiene
added together it was equivelent to about 14-16 cups of coffee in an
1 hr 1/2. I started getting very shakey, antsy, and nervous. My stomach
was hurting and I felt sick and felt like fainting. Realizing what I did, I made
myself puke to try getting the caffiene out of my system. Shortly after my
heart started beating real fast and felt chest pains. I went home and took a
shower to try making me feel better I did for a short period and my legs
and arms started feeling numb and my heart started pounding really fast
and was very cold and shivering, felt pressure in my head and chest and at few times it felt hard to breathe and I could barely walk because I felt like I was going to keel over and die. I got a ride to the emergency room and when I got there I told them what I had done and they treated me like I was nothing and let me sit in the waiting room when I should of been should of been brought right in and they were calling in people who had nothing seriously wrong. I felt very scared and I knew I had made a very stupid decison and felt like they were trying to make pay for it with my health or life. They kept telling its an 8 hour wait and they were lying to me to try to get me to leave and were telling me to go somewhere else all they did was check my pulse and would not tell me what it was but I knew it was extremely fast. They took care of everyone but me and new people were coming in and they were getting seen before me and told me they had to take care of people who needed help and made me want to die than suffer. People that were called to go to see the triage nurse were telling them to take me first because they could see what I was going trough and how extremely paled I was. Finally after giving me a bed they checked my blood pressure and I know that it was high but I did not know it exactly.
My heartrate would jump around and was mostly between 160-185 and would almost hit 200. A few times the machine would slip off and it would say I flatlined and they rushed over a couple of times and put it back on and it seemed to like they expected my heart to stop. They didn't give me
anything at all during this whole experience was from about 9 or 10 am and I was discharged from the hospital at about 8 pm. They would not tell me what was going on and I still to this day never know what happened. I went home and for about two weeks could barely get out of bed and had periods
of palpitations, chest pains and I couldnt sleep for days. For a long time after that I would have problems getting an erection. When I was discharged all they wrote was palitations, drink alot of water, and get bed rest. I have some guesses and some of them were that I was suffering from a panic attack, atrial fibralltion, or something to do with my heart. I think there might of been damage done to my body and still have periods of some palpitations.
I did get better for a while and a couple of times after a heavy night of drinking I would wake up after 5 hours of sleep and shortly after it would happen again. I would go to the emergency room and the doctor after words and the emergency room would just say palpitations and the doctor would say alcohol withdrawal. I quit doing everything after that experience and only smoke cigarettes now. I would return to the doctor and after quitting drinking for two months when and it returned he gave me xanax. I dont know if the xanax stoped the palpitations because it would knock me out. I was hoping I can get some opinions on what it could be? Should I go see a heart doctor? I feel like the hospital let this happen to me. What do you think? Please help!

You have a panic disorder which was brought on by the drinking, smoking, and your mind playing games.
This is why your on xanax. Quit smoking, drink socially, healthy diet and exercise and you'll be fine. It takes about 50 cups of coffee for you to die of a caffeine overdose. The combination of caffeine, cig smoking, and drinking over long periods of time really effect your mind and body.

Stick with taking a xanax before you go to bed or if your anxiety gets really bad. If the xanax doesnt help, see your GP.

I've had the same fears that I'll die of a heart attack for about 1 year, its truly due to the games my mind has been playing with me since, 4 years of college partying has brought my mind and body to a halt. I drink about once a week now, moderately with meals, maybe sneak in a cig or 2 every month. I hear smoking cigs for a long period of time can really mess with your brain functions. Stop it all and I bet you'll feel great.

Best of Luck

A.P.
