Q: Heart “jolting”

Hi all, first post on the site.

I am 29 years old, however since 1999 (christmas day to be exact) I noticed my heart beat being irregular – to the point where it would feel as though it would miss a beat and then jolt thereafter.

It’s very difficult to explain the symptom, it is like a blockage being cleared – like in a pipe – and there seems to be nothing then a big burst.

Over the years it’s happened every now and again, and is very unnerving. However, over the last few weeks it’s been happening more often – almost every day.

When it first started to happen I was referred by my gp to the local hospital and the cardiology dept. I managed to replicate the symptom whilst there – by running on a treadmill and then lying back and holding my breath. However the consultant advised me that it was “normal” and I would “have to live with it”

whilst that is all well and good, it’s still not nice having this – I find myself avoiding strenuous exercise, whereas before it happened i’d regularly play squash and go to the gym.

I have a further appointment with a cardiologist this year, in june (1st appointment I could get) as I am now suffering dizzy spells – which i, personally, feel is more to do with anxiety then my heart.

Anyway, i’d like to know of others who have these symptoms – what they have done about it, and have you managed to stop them happening? I’d love to get to the stage where I can be completely worry free about this.

Thanks for reading.
M.D.

Re: Heart “jolting”
I seem to be having the same problem, my heart jolts in my chest and makes me very uneasy for 15-20 minutes after. I am getting a 24 hour holter this week to see if something is really wrong. The problem gets worse when im hung over and sometimes when I bend over, sit down or lay down it feels like something is filling in my chest on the uper left side. I do also have a stomach acid problem im trying to get under control using prevacid. I also get dizzy sometimes when I go to the gym and go hard.

I am 23 years old, don't smoke, drink on weekends.
