I have been reading up on pcos since I
seen an article in a magazine. The
description was me down to a t. Since my
teens my periods have been irregular from
every 8 - 6 weeks and on the rare occasion
it will be the 28 days.
I have noticable facial hair and its now
showing on my abdomen. As you would
,ipanicked and shaved it off - now its
alot worse. It is really getting me down.
I am too embarrassed to go to my gp.Last
year I miscarried - the doctors say it
was a missed miscarraige.I am worried that
this is down to pcos

Hockey,
i'm 48 & have had several miscarriages
etc but i'm not totally up with computer
or modern lingo so what is pcos??
I know that others who come into ehealth
forums know what it is but not me, but I
would like to help you if I can. So
please reply.
Apart from irregular periods, facial &
now abdomen hair do you have any other
symptoms?? Weight loss/gain? Diet
changes at certain times??
You say you've had this problem since your
teens, do you mean since you first had
your period? Also how old are you &
are you in a regular relationship (as in
relationship where you have fairly regular
sex) or just dating. All these questions
affect the sort of answers anyone can
give. They are also questions a dr would
ask.
I know that unless you're in a large city
in ireland seeing a dr can be a
local/village affair if this is the
problem could you go to a town further
away & see a dr there??

Pcos - is polycystycal ovarian syndrome ,
its were you have irregular cycles , you
will have mulitple cycst on your ovaries
as eggs do not develop properly at
mensruation and turn into cysts. Some women
may get facial and body hair.

Hockey,
thanks for explaining. I really do think
though that you need to talk to a dr,
especially in relation to all the other
questions I asked & those that a dr
would think to ask. I know some people
who irregular periods & others with
facial hair etc & others with both.
The causes/reasons differed for each
person. I have also known people who have
pcos without having the other symptoms!!!!
All of which is why the other questions I
asked make a difference, I know from
personal experience how easy it is to try
& self-diagnose (& sometimes this
is good & can give you the strength to
fight the drs in order to get the help you
know you need but other times it can be
dangerous!!)
