Testicular Cancer? Or Just Anxiety
Posted: 02-14-06 20:21pm

Ok so here is my story it may have been posted before but...

Ever since I had a little bit of discomfort in my genital region specifically the testicles I started doing the google thing online looking at symptoms of different diseases and came along to testicular cancer. I pretty much prodded around down there until my testicle began to hurt (searching for bumps). I noticed that the left testicle had a little swelling at the epididymis and and general discomfort from rubbing around so I visited the doctor...Went to the office and he examined me for a few moments and said

"you are fine...They look fine he says to me...You do not have cancer he says."

i feel good and relieved for the rest of that day but still the discomfort ensues and again I search for signs that I have tc...That night after the doctors visit I notice a small, literally tiny spot that is between the epididymis and the testicle. It feels roughly like a piece of sand or the tip of a pen (that is how small it is). He must have missed it during the exam but its hard to find and you must touch it a certain way to even feel it....Question: should I be concerned about this or take the advice from my general practioner/doctor that I am fine?...Also does size of a bump make a difference? I have read this may be anything from a calcium spot to a cyst.

I am a hypochondriac with a lot of anxiety (which tends to make my symptoms worse) I would appreciate it if others who have experienced this sort of thing to reply...

Thanks,
svenzino

I had what sounds like the same problem as you. I get pain in my left testicle, usually after days when I do a lot of walking. The epididymus on my left testicle is larger than on my right, so I went to the doctor thinking something must be wrong. They did an ultrasound and everything and nothing is wrong with me so im assuming you have a similar problem and everything is fine. Cancer would be a hard, pea sized lump directly on the testicle usually on the side I believe.

Dont worry so much about it and if it gets worse or you feel a lump that gets bigger go back in.

I am not a Dr., but yes it could be anxiety did your dr give you anything for the anxiety? If you are not happy with your drs diagnosis. You do have a right to a second opinion, an ultra sound might be a good idea but you want to keep in mind that you are a hypochondriac with a lot of anxiety as you said, which does not help the situation out, your dr should help you out in that situation.
Good luck to you!

Tc Or Anxiety

I have not been given anything for anxiety issues which I have discussed with him in the past. He said "it (testicular cancer) feels like a rock and if you had it you would know it and I would feel it" this thing is tiny very hard to feel and the only reason why I found it was because I was looking very intently combing myself over and over...To reiterate its very small but does it need to be pea sized or what?

No it does not need to be a pea size at all it can be smaller my partner is having tests for testicular cancer at the moment he has one very enlarged testicle which has a lump the size of a dollar coin which is a fair bit bigger than a pea at first 6 months ago it started off smaller than a pea now its pretty big our doc did tell us not to be too worried unless it gets bigger or is causing discomfort and obviously now its big so he is havin tests if you are too worried about it than maybe go and see a different doctor.

I just went to an appointment with the urologist yesterday and he said that the testicles under examination look normal to him and he is a specialist so this is someone I should trust. He said that there may be the smallest cyst/varicocele near the epididymis. I asked if it was on the testicle and he said no. Obvioulsy I asked again for reasurrance and he said it is not on the testicle. He said that I should be fine and that he recommends all of his patients to go for ultrasounds (i think just to cover his back-you know, liability reasons)...So this is where I am at...Pretty sure that its a cyst and he said this is very common in people of my age group.

I had very faint discomfort in my right testicle for about a month. I would find myself picturing a needle being pushed into my testicle and the dull pain worsening. Eventually, the ache increased and, while examining myself, found a really tender stop on what I would call the top of the teste. I saw a urologist who explained to me that 1) it wasn't cancer 2) it wasn't a cyst and 3) the prostate "projects" pain in the same way the heart does. (thinnk of the arm pain someone might experience when their heart is complaining.) he told me that I most likely had a slight bacterial infection of the prostate, which is hugely common among men. A week later, the ache went away and has not returned. The doctor informed me that some antibiotics might be in order if it persisted.

Hope this helps.
