I'm a 23 year old female and have noticed mucus with a few small streaks of blood in it in my stools. It is usually completely separate to the actual stool which seems normal. I have been to the doctor about this once already and a rectal exam was done along with a series of blood tests. Everything came up normal and I didn't notice anything again for 2 weeks before it started again yesterday. The first time it was white mucus with a small streak of blood in it and now the mucus i've seen appears yellow and there are small streaks of blood in. I have not noticed any blood on the toilet paper or anything like that, it just appears in the mucus. This usually happens first thing in the morning. I had a normal movement yesterday afternoon and noticed no mucus or anything unusual. However when I woke up this morning, it was back again. I usually feel a bit of discomfort in my stomach before it happens, not pain, but it feels like there's too much air in there or something.

Two probably unrelated things but: I suffer from post-nasal drip which has been constant - all day, every day lately, so bad it makes me gag at times. I know that all goes into my stomach too...Could there be an irritation of some sort from that? I also have a pilonidal sinus which has flared up over the past few weeks. It usually doesn't do much which is why I haven't had the surgery on it, but it flares up a couple of times a year.

I'm very scared and my regular doctor is away for a month. For something like this i'd really prefer to see my regular doctor, it would help me feel more at ease.

Hi natalie - I have been having similar problems (see my post under topic "my symptoms of cancer, plz see a dr if u have any of these"). I have had a lower gi and stool testing all come back normal. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on 2/28. I don't have my symptoms everyday but I know that something just isn't right. I have a pain in my lower right side almost always and especially before I have a bm. I am feeling scared too. I am very anxious to find out what is wrong. My grandfather died of colon cancer so of course I am very paraniod!
Hang in there!
Does your doctor have a practice with another dr you could see in his absence?

Thanks guys, it's good to know i'm not alone. I am going to another doctor at the clinic today so we'll see how that goes but i'm pretty sure i'm going to be sent for more tests. I hate the thought of the invasive procedures, like getting a colonoscopy but I guess there's no getting out of that!
