My son suffered a concusion while playing basketball 4 weeks ago. Since, he has been hospitalized 3 times. Twice, he received the maximum doses of iv dhe (dihydoergotamine)sp? They also tried iv mag sulfate, iv depakene, and a long high dose of oral steroids, a course of high dose oxygen, all without relief. He is 11 years old and has had a severe migraine for 4 weeks solid. He also has severe vertigo and cannot sleep. He is currently taking celexa as a preventative, skelaxin for musculoskeletal pain, zanaflex at bedtime to help with sleep and muscle spasms. For emergency relief: he is using migranal nasal spray. The best his headache has been is a 6 out of a
0-10 pain scale. He has not been headache free the first time. He is also going to physical therapy several times per week and receiving trigger point injections, ultrasound therapy and deep tissue massage, again with no relief. Any one have additional suggestions or know of a good place to go for a second opinion? 2 mris and 3 cts were all negative (without contrast).

Post Concussion Migraine
concernedmompam I am curious after 3 years if your son is still having Migraines. My son also in 2006 suffered a concussion after a gym class injury where he collided with another student hurting the front right side of his head. CT & MRI all good. He was incapacitaed for 6 weeks lethargic and depressed. Nothing helped the head pain. he was actually getting reboind pain from pain meds which we stopped.

Took him to NYU Pediatric Neurology saw a great Dr. Tried various Anti depressnts and Migraine meds. PT & Chiro. Missed alot of school was almost held back.

The past year he has been taking Imitek IntraNasal which has helped abort duration of migraine, use to be 5 days. He was Migraine free for about 6 months whe he now has had 2 episodes lasting 1 1/2 days the past month.

Hope your son was able to get over it totally. Would love to hear.

Post Concussion Syndrome
My son (14) also received a concussion 6 months ago playing football. He is also seeing a Neuro and has had migranes every day since. He was finally prescribed amitriptyline (sp) last week. The headaches have lessened .. but he is also tired all the time and just wants the headaches to end. How old is your son and do his headaches come on when his physical activites increase?

Did your son's Dr tell you if these headaches will ever end?

Sorry about your son.My son is now 14 1/2 ,he was injured at 12. He also was on amitryp for some time which he took at night. he was also depressed and fearful which was not his personality prior to the injury. We have kept a log and the frequency and duration has definitly deminished but he also has not been playing sports which may be helping. he was very athletic, club soccer since 7, but didn't want to try out when he entered High School this year. he is going out for Tennis so we will see if there is an increase. We are seeing his Dr. in March and will find out her opinion of the continuance of migraines. I know how heartbreaking it is to see them in pain. Good Luck.

Concussion
Hi all,

I suffered a concussion about 5 weeks a go. I still have headache, tightness and pressure around my head and not recovered. Everything I am reading and I have been told says to rest and gradually increase your activities. It has been really challanging for the past few weeks and per my doctor, it will take several more weeks before I can recover. God bless all and hang tough.

Hey there,
I've been on a rollar coaster as far as trying to figure out whats going on with me. Just yesterday I had a firm diagnosis with Post Concussional Migranes, for awhile the Doctors thought I had pseudotumor cerebri, but my ICP pressure was normal.
Next friday, it will be a full year I've head this headache...everyday...all the time, this thing never goes away. ITs not really that severe, just annoying and irritating. With me it just feels like pressure, tightness around my head. We didnt think it was migranes because we thought those come and go and my headache is always there, looks like there can be different types of migranes though.
It sounds like most of you are in a worse situation then I'm in, I hope all of you get better.
