Q: Am I at Risk for Having HIV?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 14th, 2006
i had unprotected sexual intercourse with my girl friend on Dec 10, 2006 . Realizing this, i had her checked for HIV 1 and 2 twice. The first time on December 20, 206 using the particle agglutination method and the second time on February 2, 2006. Both test came back negative. I also had myself checked on January 30, 2006 and the results were negative too . Am i still at risk ?

Yes, you are still at risk of contracting/hosting the HIV virus because your body needs 6 months to produce antibodies (seroconversion) if it is infected by HIV. It is these antibodies that are detected during an HIV test. You can take another HIV test after 4 months.
