Hi..I am new to this forum, but about a
week ago I got on to ask a Dr. A question
and have had no response, so I thought i'd
ask those who are around on the
baord...Has anyone had any experience at
all with henoch-shoenlien purpura? My 6
yr. Old daughter was recently diagnosed
with this condition...It's kind of been
freaking me out a bit...She's okay at the
moment but has been to the er twice in the
past couple of weeks (the first time being
diagnosed)..The second time, however, was
for something that I thought might be
related but I have found nothing to
support this in any literature at
all..Anyway, when she was diagnosed I had
taken her into the er because of these red
hickey-like marks all over her legs and
butt..Sizes ranging from pinpricks to half
dollar or so,..She was diagnosed there
with hsp..The spots disappeared completely
after a few days (i didnt connect it till
later, but she had also had pain in her
ankles and her wrists around the time the
spots appeared)..Apparently the arthritic
pain is also a symptom of the
disease...Anyway, about a week later, she
had no symptoms at all she was with my
husband when he noticed that her forehead
and nose were starting to swell (to the
point that it really distorted her
face)..The doctor didn't think the
swelling was related to the hsp,
discharged her and told us to use ice
packs and ibuprofin to reduce the
swelling...Neither of which helped..It
took 2 days for the swelling to go
away..Anyway, at the same time that the
swelling happened, she had another bout of
the purpura...It's just all really freaky
and confusing..The head swelling really
scared me and i'm wondering if anyone who
has experienced this disease has seen
anything like this before? Thank
you..Tracy
