Q: Possible Symptoms of a Mild Stroke
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 13th, 2006
six weeks ago while shopping with m girlfriend I suddenly felt this cloud descend on my head and my brain became foggy and my vision was a bit clouded as if i had a film over my eyes. Since then i have noticed that my short term memory has become really bad. My concentration and word recall have also been affected. My memory used to be excellent and I am really puzzled. Around two weeks after the sudden onset of my brain fog and memory problems I started getting headaches especially behind my eyes I have also developed muscular pain in my arm, neck ,shoulder and lower back (these may be due to the fact that I now remain in bed all the time as i have lost interest in everything due to my sudden and unexpected condition). I have had several blood test all came back normal. My GP has written to a neuro but it could take months before I see one. The sudden onset of my symtoms have got me stumped as I have always thought that only a stroke or a vascular disorder have such rapid onset. Two days before the rapid onset of my brain fog and memory problems I had been to a new years eve party where I consumed a lot of alcohol but I was fine the day after with no hangover. My problems began the second day after my excess alcohol consumption. I am just mentioning the alcohol as i thought you may find it relevant. I have now completely stopped drinking with no improvement. For 4 weeks I have also been taking Ginko, Fish oil, Vitamin B complex, b12 tonic, chelated magnesium and calcium and l-glutamine with no improvement. Grateful for any advice. thank you.

Vascular Disorders Answer A461
A mild brain stroke (infarct or hemorrhage) can cause symptoms like those that you describe. The only way to diagnose brain infarcts or hemorrhages, however, is to take a CT-scan of the head. A neurologist can help administer this diagnostic exam.
