Q: Even Women Who Have Ectopic Pregnancy--should Have a Choice

I have been researching this for over 7 months, and I believe the woman who is pregnant outside her uterus--should have the choice to keep her baby. I dont think a .Dr or anyone should be making the choice for her. And I think he should just work a little harder to care for this patient. Not just tell her, "it is not viable, it is a parasite, no way can it survive" those are all misrepresentations of fact. All baby's "live off of another to a certain age, cannot live on their own." as we have seen in the news and scattered all over the internet a women can, and has carried to term an ectopic pregnancy. I have even heard of an ectopic pregnancy where the tube ruptured and the baby survived--as did the mother. Something like 1 of 1000 pregnancy's now are ectopic, and to me--to not give the woman a choice and just say it cant live and kill it is still homicide. Most women may not make the choice to keep this ectopic pregnancy--but I think she should be able to make the "choice"

Well yeah, I think people should have the choice to possibly commit suicide too. But suicide is illegal in this country.

If a woman wants to keep an ectopic pregnancy even if it is extremely likely to kill her (we're talking 90% likely, I believe) then sure, she has that choice. But I also believe euthanasia should be legal too.

It is your choice to put a loaded gun to your head but if you miss someone has to take care of you the rest of your life and if you get it right then someone still has to clean up the mess. No thank you fat family, I have had one ectopic pregnancy and have seen others and I almost lost my life, that was enough for me, I sure would not recommend it.

I am with you there eiri I too believe euthanasia should be legal or at least dr assisted suicide and it stillis in oregon, u.S.A. It is kind of a shame that we treat our animals better than we treat our people, that is why I do not mind working in hospice just get dr's orders for a little more morphine and they will go. To me kvorkian(sp) did it right and should not be punished.

I guess a lot of you so not understand what a hospice situation is for, no we do not kill people they are in the death process as it is , we follow dr's orders and if we feel that they are starting to suffer more we call the dr's for different orders, if you were in the death process would you want to linger on, just like a newborn that is not born with all of it's organs and some of them that cannot be replaced, just like someone pulling his own life support cord, we do not kill anyone, it is their time. We just make them comfortable. The drs. Know what the patients want, we just see to it that they get what the patient wants, their are times that they are semi-active for a few months.
I realize that eutenashia is illegal to humans but not to animals because as I said before, we do not allow our animals to suffer but a lot of times our humans do.
As I said before, I do not kill anyone!

unless you are admitted to the hospital with your fallopian tube already ruptured or are unconcious, you can choose to risk your life in this manner. However, if you are admitted into the hospital in danger of death from the placement of the pregnancy and do not have a living will filed, the doctor's and medical staff are legally obligated to try everything to save your life. That includes removing the pregnancy and hopefully repairing the fallopian tube (in the majority of ectopic pregnancies, at any rate).

I, too, saw the television program - pregnant for 46 years. The young woman who kept the ectopic pregnancy was a very special case, one that actually had never been observed before. In her case, triplets had somehow separated, with two of the fetus' attaching normally in the uterus and one outside of the uterus, I believe attached to the lining of her liver or another major organ. She was able to keep the ectopic pregnancy because it occurred within her body cavity and not the tiny place of her fallopian tube, where the majority of ectopic pregnancies occur.

Ectopic pregnancies account for around 1% of all pregnancies. This, in itself, is a very small number. About 1% of those 1% are able to keep and continue the pregnancy as it is located not in a confined place which could rupture, lead to internal hemorhaging (sp?), and death. Even these very, very small number of ectopics with a chance, many of them are attached to organs which could fail at any time given the fact that the pregnancy is meant to attach in only one place and the placenta's specialized functions in a pregnancy.

Quote:
I dont think a .Dr or anyone should be making the choice for her.
in my case, I was thankful to be told that there was no possibility of carrying the pregnancy as it was located in my fallopian tube and I was in danger of a serious rupture. Again, if you are admitted unconcious or already suffering from a burst fallopian tube, the doctor has every right to remove the pregnancy and save your life.

they are only misrepresentations of fact in the very, very tiny number of ectopics that are found outside of the uterus and fallopian tubes all together. An ectopic in a fallopian tube must be removed or you will die.

all baby's "live off of another to a certain age, cannot live on their own." as we have seen in the news and scattered all over the internet a women can, and has carried to term an ectopic pregnancy.
again, these cases are so few in number that they are not statistically relevant. The majority of women who experience ectopic pregnancies have no choice but to have the pregnancy removed if they are to survive. It is only the very, very small number of strategically located pregnancies that have any sort of chance at being kept.

do you have a link for this?

"incidence rate for ectopic pregnancy: approx 1 in 3,885" statistically, when regarding all pregnancies in the .U.S for one year, this is a very small number. Of these, 1% would have any chance of keeping the ectopic without imminent death.

Quote:

they do. However, given the statistical information available, any .Woman told she is experiencing an ectopic pregnancy should greatly consider the information given to her by her doctor if she is to maintain her health, future fertility, and life. The chances are most likely that any given ectopic pregnancy will not be one of the "lucky" ones and will need to be removed.

I am truly sorry that you have been so misinformed. There is a reason we have a uterus. Any pregnancy that develops outside of the uterus can and IS considered life-threatening. And as we all know, no maternal life=no fetal life. There are very rare instances of a fetus actually being carried to term after being ectopic but they are the result of ABDOMINAL pregnancies, not TUBAL pregnancies. And most of those fetuses were not detected until some sort of medical situation came up and a CT/MRI/X-Ray diagnosed a pregnancy. The death risk for women who have carried ectopics and fetuses who were ectopic even during labor is still extremely high, death from bleeding is not uncommon. Women have lost parts of their liver, bladders, intestines, uteruses (if the fetus attached on the outer side of the uterus), and other organs due to ectopic pregnancies. I have NEVER heard of a woman who KNEW she was carrying an ectopic pregnancy, beg to continue. I personally have had ectopic pregnancies and I would not wish them upon my worst enemy. The pain in itself is excruciating and unbearable. My ectopics were in my tubes. One pregnancy went undetected for about 6-7 weeks and my tube was starting to tear!
Back to the choice thing, sure you can choose to carry an ectopic, but don't think for a second that if things get life-threatening, your doctor is just going to watch you die. Medical practice states that in the event of probable death to the woman, the fetus takes the backstage. While you want to do everything humanly possible to save BOTH lives, sometimes it cannot be helped. But any doctor will tell you that if you lose the woman, you lose the fetus. Unless the fetus is at the viability stage. And 99% of all ectopics are WAY BEFORE the point of viability when they are discovered. And 75% of those discovered are actually discovered by doctors because something has already gone bad in the woman, like a rupture. 24% of those that are NOT detected when something has gone awry, are diagnosed by ultrasound or other method of internal exam. And the remaining 1% (being VERY generous)either are reabsorbed by the woman's body or are carried to term, causing risks of death, organ rupture, bleeding, etc. So sure, if you want to have that choice, I will not stand in your way. But don't stand in MY way if I want the choice to "abort" or otherwise medically remove an ectopic pregnancy so that I may save my life so that my already born children and spouse still have a mother/wife.

I think that if a woman wants to martyr herself for a fetus that is likely not to survive and kill her in the process, it's her choice. Other women shouldn't be compelled by law or religion to do the same.

Choice is choice is choice. If a woman wants to carry to term, barring miscarry, she carries to term. If a woman wants an abortion, barring an inability to pay for one, she gets an abortion.

Seems pretty simple to me. No need to be snarky about someone choosing to continue thus disrespecting her bodily autonomy, she isnt risking YOUR life the pregnancy isn't in YOUR body. Don't want to continue an ectopic pregnancy then ABORT IT. But please STFU about others who don't choose what you choose.
