Keppra Side Effects
I have been taking keppra for a while now. Low dose did not seem to bother me too bad. I have been on a roller coaster with seizure meds so I am used to side effects. At about 3000 mg a day I am ready to throw my head through a window. Major head aches. I can not control my rage. I never had rage. I cry all the time. It appears some one has moved all my furniture just a bit. Everything looks different. One good thing... It has made me smarter. I am also on topamax which took away many of my words. I now have plenty to say to just about every one in my way. Oh ... Another thing... Bad ringing in my head. That actually started at about 1500mg but now it is so bad it is making me insane. One cure for the ringing... Keep the tv on at all times. Helps distract you. Today my family called my neurologist for me. I just can't do this drug anymore. Don't feel bad if you can't either.

I am so sorry things got so bad at this dose! Maybe you can ask your neuro if you can go back to a lower dose to see if you tolerate that better?

I know with my son it is that way with zonegran. He does best at one dose, when we went higher things got worse, but improved when neuro lowered.

It sounds really miserable for you. I hope that an adjustment makes things much better quickly!

I am sorry that topamax was not a good medicine for you. Hoping keppra is much better. My son is doing ok on it. I know of others who also find it offered great control. Each person reacts so individually to these meds!!

Best wishes

Hi Shelbe, I am a 23 year old girl who also has these side effects. I have been on Lamictal for 7 years but needed a change so started on Kepra 2 months ago and I have been sad, feeling like I have never had enough sleep, needing to go to the toilet all the time. I am forgetting meanings of words and sometimes can not complete stories or whether I have told the poor friend who has prob heard the same thing 5 or 6 times!

My seizures have got worse also from monthly to weekly and after biting my mouth my ulcers make it difficult to have a healthy diet as eating fruit and tomato based things hurt so much!

I can't wait to get a little better; I do not want to be the sad tired girl when I am normally the hot laughing chick!! take care and what goes down must go up Smile

My mother just started taking keppra and is going through hell. the doctors wont take her off of it because they say the side effects are better than a seizure...but im starting to wonder. she falls asleep everytime she takes a pill and sleeps for about 3-4 hours at a time. it has also caused frequent urination, depression, confusion, stuttering, weakness and dizziness. she is like a zombie now. i really dont think she can go on like this? any advice?

Baby nephew on kappra
I have a ten month old nephew who has been taking kappra for the last six months and is just being weened off to try a new med. Long story short we are now testing the fifth medicine to try to help him stop but he still seizes almost every day. He is too young to talk to him about how he feels when on these meds so I was wondering if an adult could tell me their experience with kappra. If anyone has also had experience with phenobarb that would also be valuable.

my medications
hi, I'm currently on keppra 1500mg tegretol 400mg lamictal 200mg = 2100mg x 2(morning evening. this is what I hv to live on. in addition to this I's also asthmatic and hv frequent stomach ache, probable due to the high dose of meds I'm taking.
and yes like some of you I suffer from freaking bad headaches too. feel like my head's gonna explode, I take naproxen 550 for that but side effect, it triggers my asthma.
as for memory, I need to really think hard to remember new things. if it's something I do everyday, then i got no problem remembering.
feel tired all the time, don't forget not everyone will understand your situation except perhaps another person who's in the same shoes...just pray to God for the best.
