Q: Calcified Ligaments below the Jaw Bone
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 11th, 2006
I have been diagnosed with calcified ligaments located below the jaw
bone on both sides. I have terrible pain in my face, temples, and
tightness in my throat. Is there anything that can be done for this
condition. How does it happen? Splints make me worse.

TMJ Answer A455
Dentists monitor and treat disorders of the Temporal-mandible Joint (TMJ) so you can ask for help from your dentist.

Might want to look up eagles syndrome, do you just have one on each side?

What a waste of time in asking Dr. Nikola (with all due respect) this question. Do they get paid per answer or what? He also said Temporal Mandible Joint. I thought it was temporal mandibular joint, specifically disorder, I would like to ask how the doctor come to a conclusion that this person is experiencing ANYTHING AT ALL related to TMD?

Of course dentists deal with TMJ, but this question pertains to calcified ligaments, most likely referring to Eagle's syndrome. I would suggest ENT doctor. There was an open discussion on that.

I would like to know who allocated Dr. Nicola to answer questions on this board?

sorry for above remarks, Dr Nikola appears to do this on volunteer basis, I hope it did not discourage him as we need medical community to be aware of TMD related issues.
