The only way I can see fit reply to questions like this is:

1. How would you feel if you were named one of those names and had to go back to school and deal with kids that are mean. They have a freebie when it comes to a unique name to pick at someone.

2. When your child is 70 years old is the name still going to fit a 70 year old grandma/grandpa? I still cannot see how the name brittnay is going to go over as a senior citizen.

Personally I would not knowingly set my kid up for easy pickens right from birth, its hard enough to grow up without something so simple being a problem.

The only ones I would use is chrishelle or skye, it's different but doesn't sound like something someone just made up...And lily is nice but i'd lose the tiger part. Just my opinion.

it wouldn't bother me, I have heard worse names before. Kids can tease other kids for som many different reasons these days and it doesn't matter weather their name is emily or chrishelle. I think its the adults that have the problems with the names not the kids. If you have 2 kids on the playground, both with unusual names, one named skyanne and the other koffy (coffee) who would be tease more? Koffy, maybe.
As for the grannies and that, by the time its the year 2070 or wahtever names like hayley or brylie or whatever would be so popular that it would be wierd not to here it on an old person. :)

i really don't think the names are that bad (at least the look and sound like names) everyones got an opinion I guess. :)

You asked and I answered.

Between my wife and i, she works in a middle school and I volunteer and am in college to work in one, I see how mean kids really are.

If you don't like the answer, don't take the advice as useful. Consider it jargon but again, we work with kids ages 10 - 15 for a living and it can be cruel.

well said!! Its up to you what you call your child and I like your names! More and more children are being called more unique names these days so by the time your child gets older I dont think it will be such a problem! Besides I dont think these names are that bad! I have heard much weirder ones! :)

I suppose it all depends on other factors, too. If you live in a bigger city it probably wouldn't sound so different to the kids(and I think both kids and adults have problems with names, not only adults). Case in point- in my little town of every boy named ryan and every girl named laura, there's a boy named reign in my brother's class, which in my opinion isn't that wierd, and he gets picked on a lot for it. Also it depends on what kind of kid they are, like i'm sure if reign were good at sports and had all the "right" clothes and were attractive to the girls at school, he wouldn't get picked on for it. However, if the kids in school should happen to think your child is strange or unattractive, an ususual name just gives them more ammo to use against the kid. But you're right, if his name was john he'd still get picked on anyway, it's just one less thing they can use against him. So take others' opinions however you want to, and just do what you think sounds good.

i used to worked in a daycare centre and there were a few kids with unusual names, one was a girl named hunta, she was never teased about her name and a boy named holden (holden is a type of car where I live in australia) and he never got teased about it either. There are so many different names that come out each day (and yes, some of them are quite strange) but I really don't think every single child will tease or be teased because of it. Kids who have "normal" names can get teased just as much as someone who has an unusaul name. I'm sure that someone who has a strange name such as chrishelle would often ge asked how it's spelt and people might not know how to pronounce it, but I really doubt they'd get teased for it. Its really not that bad com[ared to some other names I have heard out there. My name is cassie (pretty "normal" name right?) and even "i" get my name spelt wrong or mispronounced heaps, so it's not just the people with unusual names that are gong to have a hard time, and who says they will anyway? Like I said, not everyone gets teased for having an unusual name, not where i'm from anyway. :)

Again, you asked a question, my family works with middle school kids and they are cruel.

If you give the mean kids extra ammo, they will use it.

This was not posed as a debate but as a question and answer session. I will stick to my answer, if you give your kid some off the wall name and they get picked at because of it, you knew it would happen

Look For Insperation
I think that a child would also like a name with a story that makes it unique I do like some of your names you listed no one could make fun of the name skye its just a very pretty name. But also kids like asking about their names for instance when they turn six they are going to ask mommy why did you name me "--------" ? And they love it when you have a story. I am going to name my daughter ladorra because for one it is unique and my great great grandma who was an indian princess "daughter of the chief" chose that name when she had to let go of her native american name. Kids like stories. Also middle school kids are the worst at finding things to make fun of but if you raise your child to be confident and easy going about things than teasing wont happen for very long if at all because the kids that tease just want a big response ...

Do any of you like the name ladorra michelle?

I love the person who assumes that on the same playground as .Skyanne there will be .Koffy. That's the best use of crack-logic i've seen in a while.

"it doesn't matter if I call my baby m'y'k'y'l'a! There might be someone called dajklf;sdflb'adfknvofnota on the same playground!" :p

I don't have a name suggestion, but I grew up with an unusual name.

My first name is neona.
I never got teased about my name but you wouldn't believe how many people do not pronounce it right even when they see it in writing. I get leona, naomi, and wynona alot along with other variations.

I have always had to spell my name out for people. My last name was german so I had to spell my first and last name til I got married and took the married name daniels.

I grew up at a time when unusual names were not the norm so if a teacher or someone saw my name in writing before they met me they weren't sure if I was from another country or an ethnic background.

My name was one of the things my father gave me that I still have after all these years. He served in the us navy during the korean war. He heard my name while overseas (italy I think). Anyhow when I came along ten years later and my mother asked him to name me, neona is the name he choose.
I have never had a personalized anything as a kid since neona just isn't found on bracelets, nameplates and so forth - it wasn't exactly a huge disappointment, I got used to it.

Anyhow thats my input on the name thing. Personally I like something a bit different but not too different. I also love names with more than one or two syllables. I named my son christopher because I love the way it sounds and with everyone going with unsual names these days it was nice picking something old fashioned and classic.

Name your child what is in your heart. If you love the name and it holds special meaning to you, thats all that matters. Your child will also love the name because you love the name.

I liked skylar and keegan :)

my girls are carter elizabeth and peyton louise (twins)
we got a lot of funny looks when we told our families but now no one can picture them being anything else (there are stories and passed family members behind both names). And our families actually love their names now.
You name your kids what you want!
I think every kid gets teased about their name, and every kid goes through the phase of hating their own name.
Just give them something meaningful to you and thats all that matters :)
