I am trying to figure out if I may have a disorder with my gall bladder. I am going to the doctor soon. The symptoms started a couple of years ago and i've had many tests to include a ct scan, endoscopy, and tests for the liver. They could never in the past figure anything out and told me it was probably pleurisy or a reaction to the humidity in the summer. Most recently this pressure I feel in my ribs has gotten worse. The pain goes away if I drink alcohol and every morning about the same time I have yellow stools which started about a month ago. I've also had night sweats to where I will wake up drenched in sweat. This whole thing scares me to death. The pain and pressure I have in the area below my ribs is a dull pain, not anything that keeps me from working. Please reply if you have had any of these same symptoms. Thanks..

Hi There.
I too, had dull pain under my ribs and my doctor diagnosed it as ibs. Research it online to see if it matches your symptoms if all the other tests come back normal.

Left Side Pain
I too have pain on my left side under my ribcage. I just had my gallbladder out a few weeks ago (also had right-side pain and failed hida scan) and the left side pain is still here. It also radiates to my back. I have had catscans, ultrasound, endoscopy, barium xray and they cant find anything. Some days it is better than others, soo annoying and worriesome. Dont know what to do next, colonoscopy maybe...Need to call Dr.

Hey Van---if You Have Pain Under Ribs You May Have Ibs
Hi there. I was having nagging pain/pressure under my left rib. Had the same tests as you (everything came back normal) research ibs on the internet and see if it may connect. Ibs doesn't necessarily define bowels as in ibs but the entire digestive system (including the colon/people with ibs have what is called a "sensitive" colon that spasms--which could explain the pressure under the rib as well as the pressure one feels after one eats. Unless your 40 years of age or older/have a family history of colon/colorectal cancer--they usually don't screen anyone for a colonoscopy--under 40 years unless the first two apply (over 40)/family history of colon cancer.

I was diagnosed with ibs after having many tests done (all were normal too). I don't have so called "bowel problems" associated with ibs--but I do have pain in my abdomen and pressure under the ribcage (primarily under the left rib cage)--my main symptoms--and sometimes the pain is more noticable after I eat.

I just read your posts on ibs and eastern medicine. What are you currently doing for your ibs? Thanks.

I have the same exactly problem you discribed. Aching Pain on my left ribcage that some times hurt on the back near the shoulder blade also. And when I lay down, I can feel pressure on my left side. Im 25 years old, and have been to the docters for an ultra sound, but found nothing. Ive been living with this for more then a year now. Besides the removal of your gllbladder, Have you been to the docters, or have any kind of test recently? If so please let me know, and Ill do the same.

Don't assume IBS. That is a diagnosis of exclusion. Other things need to be ruled out first. The yellow stools indicate that the diagnosis of pleurisy is wrong, plus your infection would have cleared up by now or gotten worse. You need to see a gastroenterologist as soon as you can.

I have dull aches under my ribs. Ive had normal ultrasound and endoscopy. Doc said I have motility disorder, which I believe is another word for basically cant find anything.
I take Colofac, but it doesnt help. Colpermin made my symptoms worse. I do suffer from bloating and diahorrea at times.
Anyone got any ideas?

Thyroid problems???
I've had these same symptoms, pressure on left side, night sweats, even chronic hives and lethargy. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease/Hypothyroidism. I would suggest going to an endocrinologist to be tested. Its very common and the left side pressure comes fromt the constipation associated with it along with the anatomy of the large intestine. they told me the curve under the left rib cage area coupled with this area being toward the end of the digestive system causes stool to become backed up in this area.

I have a dull ache under my left rib as well, I suffer from IBS and I have Hypothyroidism although not Hashimoto's disease. I also have an allergy to Gulten it might be worthwhile getting a coeliac blood test. I find that if I have a little bit of gluten it blocks me up for days, I bloat and the dull ache is worse than normal.

I have the pain whether moving or not. Wearing a belt - not necessarily tight usually makes it worse. Just had x-rays, blood panel, ekg, stool sample - all labs negative. Last doc told me bruised rib, but for 5 years now? I am diabetic, hypertensive, overweight. I take Nexium 20mg every day. Pain doesn't move. Bowel movement gives slight relief but no cure. Belching same. It has gone away for periods of time - usually when I lose weight. No clue other than weight loss.

Hi i have had the same symptoms as u all have with the pain under the rib cage. i had a scope done and found out i have a hianus hernia caused by acid reflux. My doctor says this is whats causing my discomfort under my rib cage but i have found that my muscles in my left chest and back area around shoulder blade r tightening up also causing me pains almost feeling like im having a heart attack. I finally got some x-rays done from my chiropracter and found out i have 2 ribs that grew too long (t3 ribs). I have problems if i try to sleep on my sides sometimes it causes me to stop breathing, always have to sleep on back with arms elevated. I haven't seen a specialist yet to c if this is what's causing my problems but i know i feel better after seeing the chiropractor.
