Liver cysts have several possible causes:
-A liver cyst can be CONGENITAL-you can have a liver cyst since your birth that is only now accidentally detected. It doesn’t need to be treated if it does not cause any problems.
-A liver cyst can be PARASITIC: There is a parasite named Echinococcus Teniae whose mature shape lives in a dog’s intestines; its larva-form causes cysts in various human organs ...mostly in the liver. A man can be affected by eating fresh vegetables polluted by echinococcus eggs from a dog’s feces. This type of cyst is diagnosed with ultrasound and serological tests. Echinococcus’s cyst usually grow and create pressure on neighboring structures. The most dangerous complication is if the cyst explodes causing anaphylactic shock. An Echinococcus cyst has to be carefully removed surgically. Medical treatment (albendazole) is an alternative treatment method.
-A liver cyst can be the CONSEQUENCE of liver abscess-reparation or gall-canal inflammation (cholangitis)-reparation. Usually this type of cyst doesn’t need treatment.
-Finally, a liver cyst can be the METASTASIS of another cystic cancer. Treatment depends upon the primary disease.
