I was just prescribed xanax .25 as needed for anxiety. Is this a low dose, can you take more than one for a bad panic attack?
Thanks

Yes it's a low dose. I often take 2 for a bad panic attack, and 1 if I start to worry and feel as though I may have one soon to prevent a bad one from happening. I never take more than 2 though, and only if it's quite bad and one isn't helping quickly enough.

I was on xanax .25mg - one in the morning and one at night. They are great and helped me until I leaned to deal with my anxiety. Don't be afraid to use them, they are what you need if you feel that you can't cope at the moment. I still have them at home just incase I get a day when I need one.
I have just read "hope and help for your nerves" by claire weekes, this is the best book a must read for all anxiety sufferers. Some days if I feel a little anxious I read a couple of chapters and then I understand why I feel like this and what I can do to calm the feeling. It works!!!! Read it - it will help you too

Wow, I take quite a bit more than that. I take 3 mg a day. 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon, and 1 before bed. If I took .25 mg right now, I don't even think I would feel it. My doctor told me it's normal to increase dose because your body gets immune to it. But, now you all have me worried.

I think the .25 mg are just kind of given at first for a trial to see if they help or not. I'm pretty sure they would not just start you on 3mg but I could be wrong. Did they give you a smaller dosage to begin with and then they gave you more? They probably up your dosage depending on how much you need them and how well they work for you. I think mine are just for when I have an anxiety attack, not for regular use.
