Q: I'm a Pregnant Minor But Have No Health Insurance ...
asked by: Tara Luvs Chris on February 8th, 2006

I live in the state of florida. I am 17, and I am 6 weeks along pregnant. I have full health insurance, but unfortunately I am not eligible to use it because of the simple fact that I am still considered to be a minor (i need my parents permission). I need maternity care. But also I would like to keep my pregnancy confidential, especially from my parents.

What can I do?
Your answers/help will be greatly appreciated.

My sister in-law lives in fl and she got medicaid for her pregnancy. Also I lived in fl for my first pregnancy and I went to the health clinic to find out I was pregnant and after they said I was they discussed insurance options and its free if you go to the health clinic for you prenatal care and then when u give birththey provide u with a midwife and if there are complications the doctor on call takes care of you so the state of fl pays 4 everything for teen pregancies just go to the health clinic and they will help you they also will help you get on wic or any other help you might need

Medicaid is a good choice... But it can take up to 3 months to get ur actual card in and u need help now. I think u should get over yourself ( not being mean ) and tell your parents. You need to worry about your baby, and not what your parents are going to say.

Medicade all the way!! Girl..I got my card within 3 days...And this was like 2 weeks after katrina...Granted I was shocked..I still got it..Althought I didn't get my card for another 2 weeks the Dr.S office didn't need the physical card..All they needed was the number which medicade provided so that I could get to the Dr. A.S.A.P....

Sarah

ps...I'm glad i'm having a girl because medicade doesn't cover circumcisions!! They can run from 250-400 dollars...Depeneding on whether a urologist or you ob/gyn does the procedure!! Phew!! I don't have to deal with that pain yet!!

Lol...Hang in there girl....Everthing will be fine!! You'll have a beautiful baby so share all of your experiences with...

Are yall gonna stay in tx. Or are yall gonna come back home?? Is your family out there with yall or is it just you and your immediate fam??

i like to keep my pregnancy away from my parents, because once they said that they would have had aborted my unborn child (if I were pregnant). I do not want my parents to have any part of my new family.

Go to your health clinic u can do it without your parents knowing as for them saying ud have to have an abortuin they cant make u they nurses and staff ask u like 5 times if u are there on your own free will and if this is what u want plus u have to sign consent papers
on another note you are only 6 weeks most doctors dont even want to see you for your first appt til 8-10 weeks when they can actually hear the babys heart beat so u have a few weeks to figure it out

i knew this information ... My point to this matter was that I do not feel that my parents should have any right to say that my baby is their grandchild.

Amen macysmama!! Lol...My mom was more excited than I was when I told her...She loves my fiance though and knows how great of a father he'll be!! They have a better relationship that me and her do...

My dad...I didn't care if my dad liked it or not...He took off with his girlfriend (who looks and acts just like my mom) to michigan..And i'm down here in new orleans...And I don't even get a phone call from him....Well he didn't call me when her lived 5 mins. Away...I'm his only daughter to boot!!

I guess what i'm getting at is that nobody has the perfect family situation ya know?? I'm not gonna say that I have a great family..Cuz they're all crazy in their way! Lol...But I love all of them and wouldn't trade them for the world!

You're parents will get over it....They might be mad during the pregnancy..But once you start showing and getting ultrasound pics of the baby..They're whole demeanor will change instantly...And I promise once that baby is born...They'll be the 1st people at the hospital...They just want you to know that they might be disappointed...But what parent isn't in a way...You're they're baby and they never want us to grow up!!! Lol...We'll prob. Be the same way when our babies get preggy!!

Good luck with everything!!

my boyfriend and I agree with you. My boyfriend's mother decided to buy everything for my baby when she found out she was going to become a grandmother. But believe me, my mother is not that kind of person. She is completely different.
